Thanks, Enid. I know what you mean with regard to the names though. My great grandfather
was named Edward Edwards and although I can trace him through military, marriage and
census returns I can't find any sign of his death. I must have umpteen certificates
for people with that name who aren't my ancestor and at this rate I'll be ending
up with the certificates of every Edward Edwards who died anywhere between the years 1902
and 1914!
However, when tracing the tree so far I've been quite fortunate in that Rice is a
recurring first name in the family. It did become confusing at one point before we
realised that my great grandparents had two sons with that name (sadly the first one died)
and just to make it complex there's another Rice (related) in Bala, born only a year
later than my great uncle.
Thank goodness for the internet, eh? My mother had started to trace the family tree years
ago but had only managed to find my great grandmother's birth and death certificates
with regard to the Welsh parts of the family.
Fortunately, she also knew that the family were Bala butchers so that gave us something to
go on. We were also lucky in that we found the family graves in Llanfor which gave names,
occupations and dates to cross reference with census returns.
