Dear Jeff,
Sorry to cause problems - again!
You wrote, "I don't know what happened to Evan T DAVIES's son Llywelyn -
will try to find out from Llandrillo contacts." I wonder if this is the
Llewellyn in question, or just s tragic coincidence:
[From the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website]

Your message threw up a point which confused me; can you explain,
please?
" Llandrillo Unconsecrated Burials, 1899-1959 :
Evan T DAVIES, age 78, minister, died at Penrhos, Llandrillo 6 February
1931, buried 10 February 1931, grave plot H24."
Why would a (Independent/Congregational) minister be interred in
unconsecrated ground? Was it because the consecration was performed by
the Church in/of Wales?
Cheers,
Trevor

Trevor -
Once again you have chosen one of the more elusive characters from Llandrillo!!
Llandrillo School Admissions Register shows - Llywelyn ap Ivan, son of Evan T DAVIES,
Penrhos, date of birth 8 January 1891. No other children of ETD.
Llandrillo Unconsecrated Burials, 1899-1959 :
1) Evan T DAVIES, age 78, minister, died at Penrhos, Llandrillo 6 February 1931,
buried 10 February 1931, grave plot H24.
2) Laura DAVIES, age 78, widow, died 21 April 1943, buried 24 April 1943, grave plot
H24.
NB - no other burials shown for grave plot H24. These burials not shown in the Clwyd FHS
publication of Llandrillo MIs, ie no headstone on this grave.
1901 Census : Penrhos, Llandrillo shows Lawra DAVIES, wife, 36, and Llywelyn DAVIES, son,
10, both born Llanuwchllyn. Evan T DAVIES is not shown at Penrhos, but internet search of
1901 census shows an Ivan DAVIES, 49, born Llanuwchllyn, Minister, Independent, at Corwen
: I didn't pay to download any further details; wasn't the census taken on a
Saturday night, when a minister might well be away from home, ready to preach on the
following morning.
1891 Census : Llanuwchllyn : RG12/4639/20/2 : at Bryn Yr Aber, all born Llanuwchllyn -
Ivan Thomas DAVIES, Head, 39, coal & flour dealer

Llywelyn ap Ivan, Son, 3mo
1871 Census : Llanuwchllyn : R10/5685/25/10 : at Shop Newydd, both born Llanuwchllyn -
Thomas DAVIES, Head, Widr, 52, Postmaster
Evan DAVIES, Son, Unm, 19, Postmaster's son
1861 Census : Llanuwchllyn : R9/4314/18/2 : (next to church), all born Llanuwchllyn -
Thomas DAVIES, Head, 42, Shopkeeper
Ann DAVIES, Wife, 45, Shopkeeper
Evan DAVIES, Son, 9, Scholar
Lewis DAVIES, Son, 7, Scholar
Catharine JONES, Mother, 78, Retired Draper
1881 Census : Evan T DAVIES not found anywhere! ETD's brother, Lewis, may be this one
- RG11/5542/24/11 (Aran House, Llanuwchllyn; all born Llanuwchllyn) -
Lewis Jones DAVIES, 28, Draper & Grocer
Mary Jones DAVIES, 29
John Llywelyn DAVIES, 11mo
ETD's future wife, Laura, is probably here - RG11/5542/19/1 (Garth Isaf,
Llanuwchllyn) -
Cadwaladr JONES, 58
Laura JONES, 56
Laura JONES, 16 (1 of 7 children)
FreeBMD gives the following information -
Marriage : Dec 1888, Bala, 11b, 638 : Ivan Thomas DAVIES and Laura JONES
Birth : March 1891, Bala, 11b, 339 : Llewellyn Ap Ivan DAVIES.
Registers of Electors in Llandrillo :
1910 - Ivan Thomas DAVIES, Penrhos
1920 & 1930 - Evan Thomas DAVIES & Laura DAVIES, Penrhos
I don't know what happened to Evan T DAVIES's son Llywelyn - will try to find out
from Llandrillo contacts. Other sources of information likely to be obituaries of ETD in
1931& his widow Laura in 1943 - local newspapers, also national chapel magazines;
probate indexes - though lack of headstone on grave suggests their estates were not of
very great value, thus no probate.
I tried to enter Bangor Archives via the internet address you gave, but got stuck;
internet search for Bangor + ("Evan T. Davies") succeeded.
Best wishes
Jeff Delves
