In memory / of/ Elizabeth Roberts/ Wife of Robert Roberts/ Glanaber
Llanuwchllyn/ Who died on Wednesday/ June 9th 1869/ aged 53 years.
In the loss of gentle Mrs Robert – horrid
Is the wound in our hears
Despite the darkness of death and its tides of anguish
She no longer aches – she wears her crown
(This is a poem known as an Englyn - its main feature is the way in which
the letters in one half of each line are answered in the second half -
something that I don't have the skill to show in a translation)
Ioan Gwemydd (author of the poem)
Also the said/ Robert Roberts/ yr who died in Jesus/ February
14th 1883/ aged 82 years.
He was a useful deacon/ With the Calvinistic Methodists/ for most of his
life/ this was notable in respect of / hard work and religious generosity/.
Also he worked/ with devotion and generosity/ in the cause of education and/
Liberalism.
All the best
