Peter,
I had a similar experience with a book of poems written by Glan Cymerig a poet and
musician who lived for most of his life in Bala. Glan Cymerig was not a great poet, but an
enthusiastic member of a local group of like minded people in Penllyn who published a
collection of poems at his own expense during the 1890's. His collection of papers
were donated to the University Library at Bangor.
Google Books suggests that a copy of his collected poems is online - copied from an
edition available at a university in the US - but no way to access it, not even at Toronto
Reference Library, which is pretty good about these things. Tried the British Library -
not available. Alibris, Abe Books and other second hand sources - nothing over three years
of periodic searching.
Last resort: a visit to the National Library of Wales where I knew the book was available.
It was one of several documents that I wanted to see for work on the Corwen area, so the
trip was worthwhile from the perspective of my overall research. Incidentally, the library
photocopies a limited number of pages from a book at a nominal cost if you visit, subject
to the usual provisos about copyright and use for research.
Having searched around the web a little more, I can understand your enthusiasm to get hold
of something regarding the history of Llanfor. In this respect, I had another look at
Welsh Newspapers Online using the search parameter "hanes AND llanfor" and
found an article written by Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt for the Cambrian News in about 1880
or thereabouts. A paragraph about Llanfor - mostly about Llywarch Hen, Rhiwaedog and the
remnant stone in Llanfor Church. (There may be something in Prof Nancy Edwards' new
book about carved inscriptions about that). Very little else in depth that might help, but
one never knows.
Good hunting,
Ken Richards

Fortunately I have in my library a copy of these two volumes. I am also a
member of that society so am familiar with their publications. I have also
gone through the Index to Volumes 1 - 10 (1949 - 1989) and followed up any
article of interest.
Being a member of the Cambrian Archaeological Society I have in my library
all their Indexes, so have gone through those too.
I used to be a member of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, and have in
my library all their Indexes, which I have also gone through.
So my interest in Hanes Plwyf Llanfor is a serious one, and I am prepared to
pay for a copy.

Peter Evans
