Hi Lynn - just came across your post, and thought I'd share a little story. I
don't know how old that Rolls is, but in 1947 my father (W.J.Thorneycroft) was working
as head gardener for Clayton Russon at Glan-y-Maddach, nr. Barmouth. My mother was
expecting me, but due to extreme toxaemia at 81/2 months was order to hospital in Chester!
This was about a 2hr trip from Barmouth, but in Feb 1947 they experienced the worst snow
that century. Roads were closed everywhere! Clayton Russon instructed my father to get my
mother to hospital by taking the Rolls!! The journey took 9hrs around the coast of
N.Wales. She arrived ... and so did I soon afterwards, a little prematurely!!
I'm very grateful for that Rolls ... and Clayton Russon's generosity!! Peter
Thorneycroft
