Hello Geraint,
So, another Rhondda bred child. I use the term loosley of course. Smile.
I think I did go to Porth swimming on one occasion, but most of my swimming
was in Ferndale at Darran Park. Afterwards, a trip up the slope to the
little wooden hut shivering under a towel, and niblets with hot oxo was the order
of the day.
The church of Llandanwg, acording to one source I used, say it was the
chapel of ease for Llanbedr Church. A modern person discounted this. But I did
read it in a history book.
Another coincidence you might like is that my cousin Geraint now farms at
eifod Uchaf in Llanenddwyn. Mind you, I find it confusing sometimes that the
Church of Llanddwywe lies at the foot of the road leading down from the farm
and across the road from the twin gatehouses. This road also leads up to
Corsygedol, once the home of the big Vaughan family. Late in the 1700s and into
the 1800s, one of my relatives, one Robert Wynne was a butler at Corsygedol.
It was said that he might have been a relative, and that well to do
families took on less better off kinsmen. This Robert Wynne was one of several
children left fatherless in 1761, so that might well answer that question.
You might well have seen the famous Salem Chapel in Llanbedr too. Of Vosper
fame.
Well, the eldest son of the Wynne's of Cefn Cymera or his eldest son, was
responsible for giving the land for this Chapel. I am descended from the
second son, so my lot ended up as tenant farmers and butchers.
Just thought I would throw that one in for good measure.
Regards,
Maureen
