Hello Leslie,
So, from Barmouth are you? Well, you would probably have known some of my
relatives in that area, or at least known about them.
Siop Cadwaladr an ironmongers, was started by a brother of my great
grandmother. He was Cadwaladr Roberts. Then there is a pet shop owned by another
relative, John Wynne.
As for the Evans connection. There have been several intermarriages between
Evans and Wynne's since at least the 1700s. The first one was Robert Wynne
of Cefn Cymera, 1716-1761, who married Margaret Evans of Blaiddbwll, both in
the parish of Llanbedr.
Further down the line a couple of generations, there was another Wynne
female Ann, who married an Evans and there are relatives all over the world from
this connection. America, South Wales, and Monmouthshire.
There there was back between the 1700s and 1800s, a John Wynne Evans who
probably died in the Napoleonic wars. Griffith Evans Wynne, from Cwmyravon. I
think he dropped the Wynne name and became Griffith Evans. Also, Humphrey
Evans Wynne did the same thing. I think that this Evans came into being with
the original Margaret Evans of Bleiddbwll. This Evans side of the family lead
back to Broom Hall and Tan y Bwlch. And there is Ellis mixed up too, due to
patronymics. Ellis Evans, Evan Ellis etc.,
During my own lifetime I have had cousins named Wynne Evans who were farming
in Arthog. The Evans side of the the family came from Llanenddwyn.
Just a taster.
Regards,
Maureen
