In that case, why not make a charge for handwritten notes!

I am afraid that I disagree with this question of charges (or the lack of
them) for copies of documents held in local or national repositories.
The fact is that if ad libitum copying by any medium of documents held in
the PRO/NLW/Local ROs is allowed then it will lead to the closure or
reorganisation of these useful resources.
I think that eventually, every holding of any record office or library
will be available by internet but until then we have to make do.
I would not support any activity of this sort because I am hapy to support
my NLW/Local RO by paying my "dues".
