Hello all
Does anyone have access to Llandrillo records around 1742 and earlier? I have found 2
references in the Gwyddelwern PRs relating to the marriage of a Thomas Jones and a Jane
in 1742:
As there are 2 marriages between a Thomas Jones and a Jane on consecutive days in
Gwyddelwern, November 14 & 15 1742, it may be that either of these couples could be
the parents of Rees Jones, my GGGG Grandfather, unless these couples are one and the same.
(Rees Jones' father, Thomas, was a butcher as shown on his baptism entry of Sept 16
1750, but there are 3 other entries for children born to a Thomas & Jane Jones in
Gwyddelwern - Mary b 1736, William b 1740, Thos b 1744, father's occupation
unspecified.)
1742 Nov 14 Thos Jones Jane EVANS (Llandrillo)
1742 Nov 15 Thos Jones Jane Rowland
What I would like to know is: As Jane EVANS' name is in capitals, would I assume
that it is a recognised surname and that she came from Llandrillo but was married in
Gwyddelwern, or could she have married in Llandrillo on Nov 14, and maybe had a blessing
in Gwyddelwern on Nov 15 as Jane Rowland (lower case letters). Could her father's
first name have been Rowland?
It may be that these are 2 completely separate couples, or could they be the same people?
If someone could possibly look up the births in Llandrillo, to see if they could find a
Jane with either of these names, around 1724 and earlier, I'd be most grateful.
The only other Gwyddelwern marriage entry I can find earlier than 1742 is May 8 1731
between a Thomas Jones and Jane Richard, which could also be a possibility.
Help, I'm confused!
Many thanks.
