The last name in the Dolgellau list is Dol Uwch Eogryd- the meadow above the
salmon weir.

Message Board Post:
Hello all,
I was recently in Dolgellau doing research at the Gwynedd Archives, and
collected
some 1800's baptisms performed in the parishes of Mallwyd and
Dolgelley (Counties of Merioneth and Montgomery). I am getting them into
shape to share online, but there are some place names I can't figure out,
due to a combination of the poor handwriting and my unfamiliarity with the
area and with Welsh. Does anyone here have any suggestions of what these
might be (with apologies for my painful guesses at the spellings)?
>From the register of Mallwyd baptisms, 1813-1837:
Pla's-ncha or Plasucha or Plaucha
Capilenon or Capralanira
Cartheniaf or C'amancsof
Cafen-Llain-lybo
Gsgiesgelry Mill
Cuirst
Machynlleth Moroa
>From the register of Dolgelley parish baptisms, 1827 to 1846:
Dalserauchof [where a "Gentleman" lived = an estate name?]
Traian [where a Farmer lived = a farm name?]
Gilbert Parish of Celynin
Ty'n Cefn or Tryn y Cefn or Ty'nycefen [where a Farmer lived = farm name?]
Folwmuh-eogryd or Tolunsh-eognyd [where an Agent of Mines lived]
Incidentally, while in North Wales I was amazed to discover that almost
every house
and apartment has its own "name" instead of a street address
with number. This Yankee marveled, "How does the Post Office manage to
deliver the mail?" Well, the dawning realization that tradition and history
so permeates these places that the name of every dwelling place long
outlives its inhabitants was just one of the enlightening details about
North Wales you can only grasp by being there. I hope I can return someday.
Thanks for any help with these,
