I checked the 1851 census (Ancesgtry.co.uk) using the search parameter "David Jones”,
”Merionethshire” and “1842.”
There were several hits, as might be expected with “David Jones,” but some interesting
possibilities for a David, aged 10, in the Towyn area. There was one family in
particular:
RO107/2495. Merionethshire, Trefrion, District 2h. Page 12
Rhydronan (now indicated as Rhyd yr Onen)
John Francis, 61, Agr Labourer, born Llandeilo. Carmarthen
Mary Francis, 50, born Celynin, Merioneth
Anne Jones, Daughter, 15?, Dau at house, born Celynin, Merioneth
David Jones, Son, 10, Scholar, born Towyn Merioneth
I selected this family in particular because of the name “Francis”.
Rhyd-yr-onen is a small settlement about a mile east of Towyn, and a stop on the Tal y
Llyn Railway.
Celynin is probably an abbreviation of Llangelynnin, a parish located north of Towyn
