Hello Kay and Lizzie
I had the same problem as Kay - the Registrars in Blaenau and Dolgellau couldn't find
the marriage certif of my Margaret Roberts (maiden name given on my great
grandfather's birth certif). After much delving the reason was good ol'
patronimics. She was the daughter of John Roberts. She gave her maiden name as Margaret
Jones on her marriage certif and on the birth certifs of her 1st 3 children. Then,
somewhere around 1852, she decided to move with the times and on her 2 youngest
children's birth certifs she gave her maiden name as Margaret Roberts. It surprised
me just how late patronimics survived in deepest Merioneth - but I later found it
operating even later than that. So, if you eliminate all Owen Williamses, Owen Owen is
certainly worth a try.
Having said that, the Registrars have told me that in some parishes there seem to be
surprisingly few registrations in the early years of registration. This is especially so
with marriages but also, to a lesser extent with births. So, as Owen was born very early
in the period of registration, p'haps his parents didn't register him??
You'll find him in the end!

Dolgellau Archives looked at this record and the father was not Owen Williams, therefore,
they didn't send it. Could he possibly have been Owen, son of William _____?. I have a
great grandmother, Elizabeth Edward, from Llanenddwyn. She was the daughter of Edward
William. However, on birth certificates of two of her children, one said her name was
Elizabeth Edward, the other one said she was Elizabeth Williams. I'm sure I have the
right person as they were living in Tycanol on both certificates and it was the same
father. > > Good luck in your search.> > Kay > > > > -----
