Hello Rhian You're right - I have an old Ordnance Survey map of Maentwrog with Cae
Einion Alun (no comma!!). I've just checked the map for the names of the two nearest
dwellings to Cae Einion and they are Pen y glanau and Pant yr Onen and checking the two
dwellings listed on the 1861 census on either side of Canganaeu are .... Pen y glanau and
Pant yr Onen!! I would never have made the connection that they were the same dwelling -
many thanks. It was the Blaenau Registrar who can't find the William and
Margaret's marriage on the Ardudwy register of BMDs - which is a bit of a problem.
She said that there were very few marriages recorded in that area in the early 1840s and
she suggested that perhaps some of the chapels didn't shave a registrar present at the
marriage? But I'm hoping that I might still find the marriage in a chapel's
register (or is that too optimistic?) The family were baptists and methodists 2
generations later but I'm keeping an open mind about William and Margaret. As I think
they met in Llanbedr, maybe they just might have married in the Dolgellau district? Many
thanks
