I hadn't realised that this was a Capel Celyn family!
I was taking the year of birth from the censuses. The census entries, from 1841 to 1891,
all point to a date of birth of 1844/45. The 1901 census entry differs though.
1901: Cae Gwernog. Age 53. Born c1848, Denbighshire.
1891: Cyn Efail. Age 46. Born c1845, Ysbyty Ifan.
1881: Cerrigefail. Age 37. Born c1844, Pentrefoelas.
1871: Gwern Howel. Age 26. Born c1845, Ysbyty Ifan.
1861: Eidda. Age 17. Born c1844, Ysbyty Ifan.
1851: Gwern Howel. Age 6. Born c1845, Corwen.
The death record suggests he was born c1842.
1923 Q1: Peter Roberts died, Bala (11b 470). Age 81.
If he was born in Ysbyty Ifan (or Pentrefoelas), then it would appear as a Llanrwst birth
and the possibilities appear to be:
1841 Q3: Peter Roberts, born Llanrwst (27 175)
1844 Q1: Peter Roberts, born Llanrwst (27 212)
1845 Q2: Peter Roberts, born Llanrwst (27 190)
The Llanrwst Registration District was divided into three sub-districts: Llanrwst; Betws y
Coed and Ysbyty. The third district contaied the parishes of Pentrefoelas and Ysbyty Ifan
which is where I think you should find him.
The PRO records only record the Registration District (i.e. Llanrwst) but the
NorthWalesBMD index records the sub-districts. Unfortunately they do not appear to have
transcribed Ysbyty yet!!!! However, they do record the 1845 birth as being in the Llanrwst
sub-district, so I think we can rule that one out now! That means it's down to 1844 or
1841???
The only way to sort this out would be to order a copy of the birth certificate. I think
these registers are now held at the Llandudno Register Office and it might be worth
speaking to them before ordering?
Of course, if he was born in Corwen then its a completely different scenario!!!
