Hello Arfor
Thank you, I didn't realise that ceremonies were carried out in the parish church,
regardless of denominations.
Re' Jane's baptism date, through LDS, I found baptisms, on the same day 25 March
1827, for both Jane and Ellinor Williams at the parish church. This was confirmed by
Dolgellau RO who added the information that the father was William and mother the late
Ellinor Jones, father carpenter of Blaen y Cae.
LDS also give records of their other children, William born 1814 died 1815 and another
William, born 1816, but no Anne or Elizabeth (thanks for those).
My Jane was married 23 May 1840 at the parish church and her father and one witness are
both named as William Williams, I guessed / hoped that the witness WW could be her
brother, as the grooms brother is the other witness.
Dolgellau RO also kindly provided me with an entry from a midwife's birth register
showing daughter Jane born to William Williams and Ellinor (daughter of John Jones and
Elizabeth) Blaen y Cae, on 6 September1818.
1841 census shows a WW (as a farmer, which is as on my Jane's marriage cert') with
William 1816 and Ellinor 1821, but nobody else, which ties in with the early death of his
wife.
So, it certainly looks like we have one family, William - Ellinor & children / John
Jones - Elizabeth etc and everything that I've found appears to say that their Jane is
my g grandmother, but .....there is nothing to definitely tie her to them which leaves the
now possibility that their Jane is the one who married Pierce Williams! Although that
would make her aged about 18 at time of marriage, is that likely? If only there was some
way of linking Jane married Walter Davies to that family.
Well, I hope I haven't totally confused you and thanks again for the information you
have provided so far.
Regards - Walter
