Jane,
It looks like you my be right. We don't have a connection. My oldest
Phillips is John Phillips born Llansilin in 1780 married to Jane Pryce.
That's where I stop. So I susect this "patronymic method" of naming is
stating at this point. I have a guess that his father may have been a
Williams or an Owen. I have only a word from my father on that and no other
information. And since my father passed on 15 years ago, I can't ask.
I also looks like my people traveled freely from Denbigh to Merioneth over
the years.
Thanks,
Barbara

Barbara,
I don't think I can be of any help at all. The information I have on the
Roberts is so sketchy and your Richard would have been thirty years after
my
Sarah.
The Phillips came to that surname sometime the early half of the 1800s.
Up
to that point they had named the children with the patronymic method. So
in
1799 Sarah married William Evan and that was his baptism name, but in 1841
when he died he was buried under the name William Phillips in the 1841
census she was Sarah Phillips. Actually, the surname Philips is not very
common the area surrounding Bala.
II can get very confused very quickly with the Welsh naming system.
Jane

Jane,
I have Roberts' and Phillips' in the Bala Llanycil, Merioneth area,
however,
I don't have my family line back as far as you. My Richard Roberts, was
born
1796 in Bala and he married Ellin from Llanfawr, born 1794. My Phillips
line
stars in Bala when John Phillips married Margaret Roberts around
1857/1858.
Before that my Phillips' come from Denbighshire.
Our Robertses might be connected, but, I don't think that our Phillipses
would be.
Let me know if you thing there might be a match and you want more
information.
Thank you,
Barbara Ann Phillips
