Diolch, Ken
This is obviously going to be harder than I thought!
I don't know when William Griffith DAVIES came to Oz (I will check the
passenger lists when I again get access) but there is also at least
some chance I will be able to see him the 1911 census whenever that
becomes available for Wales.
The problem with those candidates you have identified is that neither
would seem to be consistent with WGD's Mam being a 'Maggie'.
My grandmother, to whom he is allegedly related, came to Oz in August
1914 with her sister and another girl, Nellie Jones, all from
Penrhyndeudraeth. Nellie married WGD. Nellie died in 1929. I found out
about the alleged relationship by a chance connection via a message I
had left on this list some years ago, which led to my hearing
indirectly from Nellie's younger sister, who is still alive and living
in Penrhyndeudraeth (just turned 107!).
Rather remarkable when you come across someone now who can remember
your grandmother from before the Great War (how worried everyone in
Penrhyn was that these girls set off with a war seeming imminent!)
I believe grandmother's mother was a Catherine DAVIES, born 1857,
Ffestiniog; her parents were Owen DAVIES and Catherine EVANS, who were
living in Penrhyn in 1881. Owen may have married before. I don't know
any other DAVIES connection to help make any link to WGD.

David,
According to Free BMD two persons named William Griffith Davies were
born in Wales in 1888. One in Festiniog district and the other in
Pontypridd. Festiniog district included Penrhyndeudraeth, so this one
appears to be your William:
March 1888: Davies, William Griffith, 11b, 362
I could not find a William Griffith Davies in the 1891 census, so I
searched Griffith Davies with two possibilities, but not specifically
1888:
- Parish of Llandanwg, Quarry Cottage: Griffith Davies, son of John
(37), Slate quarry miner, born Harlech, and Ellen (37) Davies, born
Dyffryn,
- Parish of Festiniog, Church Street: Griffith Davies, son of W.G.
Davies ( 31), Quarryman, born Festiniog, and Catherine ( 34), born
Festiniog.
Apparently there were two sets of twins in the latter household!
I may be going up the wrong track here, so perhaps those of you who
have attempted to crack this one would take a look to see if they
agree.
