That's really interesting. Thank you -- I hadn't got those census
entries either.
Looks like Mary Williams (my grandmother) was visiting her
grandparents in 1901, but her parents (Edward and Catherine Williams
and family) were also in Penlan Terrace at that time (as Allan Hobbs
kindly found out for me some years ago). Perhaps there was more room
in Nain and Taid's house, given the several siblings my grandmother
had by then!
Good idea about the patronymics. I'll need to check on that basis.

The patronymic system still existed into the 1840s and occasionally
the
1850s in the west of the county. One of my family still used it in
the 1860
census in Llanuwchllyn - it is an offchance that Owen appears under
another
surname?
