Hi Catherine!
I think John and Gwen Evans daughter was called Kate. She's in the 1901 census. It is
said they were evicted from Cae Peris (possibly after John died)by the Thomas family from
Blaen Cywarch - the landlords. They then moved to Tyn y Twlch, also in the Cywarch valley.
This is now a holiday home and i don't know where they went from there.
Another branch of the Evans family lived next door to Cae Peris in Perth y Felin. It is
said they had been there for four hundred years. The last Evans (i think his name was
Meirion) left to move to the village of Dinas Mawddwy in the 1970s.
The Thomas family lived in Blaen Cywarch until the 1980s when the last daughter (Catrin
Thomas) died. Two of her brothers, Emrys and Eurwyn Thomas had farmed there with her since
the death of their father David). Her niece, Sian Pugh, and her family are the farmers
there now.
It seems the Thomas and Evans families have been linked with Cwm Cywarch (the valley)for a
very long time. Sadly, nobody carries the name in the valley now, although their relatives
still live there.
I'll ask Sian if she knows any more.
Regards.
Jeremy
