Not necessarily. As I explained in my previous post, the naming convention
used in Llanymawddwy at that time was almost certainly the Welsh patronymic
system, whereby a son called John with a father called John would be called
John Jones (John son of John, or John ap Jones).
I believe that the patronymic naming system did not die out in this part of
Merioneth until about the 1841 census, but you would need to check with the
Dolgellau record office on that.
