Written surnames outside the context of a will might not have been the names the people
were known as. Within the will, I think you can be certain that, these are the
"real" names as used by the family and that, for some reason, the patronymy is
"fluid".
John Angel is not a patronymic surname - but might indicate a name "further
back" that is continued.
Lewis Evan Angel is patronymic and the "surname" here is "Evan Angel",
not "Angel".
You should check the llgc.org.uk website for "Angel" and "Angell".
"G" can be mistranscribed as "S" so "Ansell" and
"Ansel" might be worthwhile as well.
It seems that Tywyn PRs and MIs might be useful?

Subject: [MER] Naming of children
Thanks to Alwyn having put the Wills website on the list I have now received
seven wills/admons. I thought I had begun to understand how children were
named but it is apparent that I haven`t
If I take a simple will - that of Evan ANGEL. He leaves legacies to:
His son Angel EVAN and Angel`s son Evan ANGEL, the names being as I would
have expected.
He also leaves money to his son John ANGEL and the bulk of the estate to
Lewis Evan ANGEL
Can someone explain to me why John & Lewis don`t take the surname EVAN?
Incidentally other legacies go to daughter Mary wife of Humphrey DANIEL and
to granddaughter Jane daughter of D...(torn page) JENKIN.
Many thanks for any help.
