Anne,
Lewis Lloyd, `Wherever Freights May Offer. The Maritime Community of Abermaw, Barmouth
1565 to 1920s' [1993], has a short section on a Captain Robert Morgan (1805-1881) and
mentions in passing that Anthony Morgan of Hendre, Llywyngwril, a close relative of Capt.
Robert Morgan, was a Quaker and a friend of John Bright MP.
The Quaker connection of the Morgans of Hendre is further documented by the following
entries in the List of Boys and Girls Admitted into Ackworth School [1879]. Ackworth is a
Quaker boarding school in Yorkshire.
Mary Morgan, Hendre 1819-1820
Anthony T Morgan, Hendre 1819-1822
Griffith Morgan, Hendre 1820-1824
John Bright was also a pupil here (1822-1823) and one of his
biographers (John Travis Mills in `John Bright and the Quakers' [1935]) writes about
the connection between John Bright and Gwen Morgan, the eldest daughter of Anthony
Morgan.
There is much more on this family (my ancestor Elinor was
Anthony Morgans sister) which I can send you by email if you are interested.
Robert
