Good Morning Patricia
What a shambles the Government has made of our county boundaries. In 1974
the old counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Merioneth were
amalgamated to form Gwynedd and the old counties of Denbighshire and
Flintshire became Clwyd. For family research purposes we stick to the old
counties otherwise there would be complete chaos. Mertioneth and
Denbighshire were never as one. However in recent times new boundaries have
been created. Anglesey is a county on its own for now where as
Caernarfonshire and part of Merioneth (Meirionnydd) are now the New
Gwynedd.. In the old Denbighshire it has been split into Conwy and Denbigh.
The eastern part of Merioneth has been swallowed by Denbigh and part of
eastern Caernarfonshire has been transferred to Conwy. Yet more changes are
anticipated. Are there any specific issues that confuse or puzzle you. Do
not hesitate to contact me
