Hi Patricia,
The two counties were established as separate entities in the medieval period, and
remained as such until 1974.
Having said that, there are complications when it comes to census and registration,
particularly in the border areas between the two counties. This after 1837.
For example, in the Corwen area, successive censuses during the 19th century show members
of my family as living in the Parish of Llangwm (Denbighshire), but they actually lived in
Merionethshire.
I have have also found errors in the way that the census for some townships are listed on
the major data bases. Townships that were clearly in Merioneth are listed in the database
as located in Denbighshire.
The list of parishes and the townships in Genuki is invaluable in sorting things out.

Hello, can anyone tell me if Merionethshire and Denbighshire were once one County.
Thank you, patricia in USA.
