Hi Charles,
If you've read the Williams book then you'll be familiar with my family
members Mary ROWLANDS (nee EDWARDS) and Evan Edward LLOYD who are depicted
in this painting. Mary's mother/Evan's grandmother was my direct ancestor
Elin Jones who was the caretaker at Salem and the owner of the famous hat
the women wore in the painting. Elin's husband was Evan EDWARDS who worked
at Salem for many years. I know know his parents were married and had at
least 2 children in Llanfair. So I've got EDWARDS in Llanfair connected to
Salem. Might be related somehow to Sian's uncle Richard?
The painting and the chapel are important in my family history so I'd be
very interested in your research.

Hi All on Merionethshire List,
I'm doing some research, for my own interest, on the famous painting SALEM
by Sydney Curnow Vosper. I have read Tal Williams' book and am now trying to
track down Sian OWEN. She was born Jane WILLIAMS in 1837, daughter of Rees
and Jane WILLIAMS, but was brought up by her uncle Richard EDWARDS. Later
she joined the household of George and Mary OWEN as a house servant. When
Mary died Jane married George and then had one son, William.
What I'm interested in is George and Mary and where Jane was in 1851 and
1861. She married George in 1864. Much of the action seems to take place in
the Llanfair area.
Any help accepted.
Best wishes,
Charles
