Hi Michael,
Llanfor/Llanfawr are two versions of the same name of a parish east of
the town of Bala. There is a small settlement called Llanfor clustered
around the parish church. The original parish included an extensive
area of land, hence the name Llan....fawr (large).
Llanycil was also a parish which included the town of Bala, and an
area to the north of Bala Lake/Llyn Tegid
Llandderfel was a parish east of Llanfor, and included the current
village of Llandderfel
These three parishes are part of the area of Penllyn, which included
the parishes of Llanuwchllyn, Llangower, Llanycil, Llanfor/Llanfawr
and Llandderfel.
Llanrwst is in another area altogether, once on the border of the old
counties of Denbighshire and Caernarfonshire, and currently in the
area administered by the County Council of Conwy.
As to maps, my personal choice is always the Ordnance Survey Get a Map
Service at:
http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm
There are also Google Maps and other map retrieval services that
provide excellent maps and search facilities.
Finally, go to the site Genuki:
http://www.genuki.org.uk
This site is a mine of information regarding parishes in the UK. It is
particularly helpful for parishes in North Wales, thanks to the
efforts of several people who compiled the information.
