HEN BOBOL Y PENRHYN
OLD PEOPLE OF PENRHYN
Syr -- Clywais fy nain, sef Jane Jones, Ffridd Uchaf gynt, yn dweud ganwaith fel
yr oedd wedi gwau ugeiniau o sannau I Capt. Evans ai frodyr, a llu eraill.
Byddai enwaur sannau yn ddiddorol; sannau tro, llygaid iar, ac asgwrn pysgodyn,
&c. Cof gennyf gael par ganddi or llygaid iar, ac ni chefais bar cystal cynt
nac wedyn. Oes rhywun all eu gwneud yn awr tybed? Clywait am yr enwau hyn.
Hwyrach nad ynt yn iawn I gyd -- Wil Garregalltran; Nancir Sgoldy; Isaac
Bwtsiar ai wraig Phena yn y Pant; geini, oedd yn cadw Ty Capel y Pant; Thomas
Evans, na fedrai ddarllen, ond byddai yn cofio ei bennill, ac yr un un fyddai
bron bob amser; Dafydd Llwyd, Pant hefyd; Catrin Evans, Gwyndy; Parir Sglatar
Diolch I J.J. am ei restr. Gresyn ydyw na fyddai I un o allu J.J. fyned ati I
ysgrifennu llyfr o hanes yr hen ardal ai chymeriadau. Yr wyf wedi gofyn iddo
yn bersonol ac yr wyf am bwyso eto yn gyhoeddus. Os oes rhywun arall yn cofio
am rywbeth ynglyn a hanes y lle, hoffwn eu cael er mwyn eu croniclo. Byddant o
fuddir oes syn codi.
IFOR JONES
Sir----- I heard my grandmother, Jane Jones of Ffridd Uchaf previously, telling
a hundred times how she knitted dozens (actually 20s) of socks for capt Evans
and his brothers and many more. The names (types) of socks were interesting;
turning socks, hens eyes, fish bone etc. I remember getting a pair of the hen's
eyes from her and I have never had a better pair of socks since. Is there
anyone left who can still make them, I wonder? Has anyone heard of these
names? Perhaps I haven't got them all right---------- Will of Garregalltran,
Nancy Schoolhouse, Isaac the butcher and his wife Phena who lived in The Pant,
Geini who kept the Chapel House in Pant, Thomas Evans who could not read but
memorised his verse usually the same one every time, Davydd Llwyd also from
Pant, Parry the slater?, Thanks to JJ for the list. It's a pity that I am not
the one to make JJ go at it and write a book about the old districts and the
characters. I have asked him personally and am pressing him again publicly. Is
there anyone else who remembers about the history of the place? I would like to
receive and chronicle it
..something about the coming times??????
IFOR JONES

I await any comments.
