Hello fellow Listers,
I am new to this list and am hoping somebody can help me.
My ggg grandfather, Henry SETREE, was a Solicitor in London and died in
1861.
In his Will, dated 1857, he left to his daughters "all his rights, shares,
and property and interest of and in a certain mine in the County of
Merioneth now called "Anna Maria", etc, etc, and also the same in "another
mine in the County of Merioneth now called "Great Welsh Consols".
Does anyone know of these mines - I am presuming they would be coal mines.
Is there anywhere I can contact to find out more? Any help would be
appreciated, thanks.
I cannot find any reference to either of these names in the (limited)
information I have on mining in Merionethshire. However they would not have
been coal mines. The main minerals mined in Merionethshire were Slate, Gold,
Magnese, Copper and Zinc
This may sound like an unusual place to ask for information about
Merionethshire, but one of the most helpful places for discovering details
about mines in North Wales is:
The Peak District Mining Society, Matlock, Bath, Derbyshire DE4 3NR Tel
(01692) 583 834
All the best
