Hello Bob,
What it means is that the address/location of their dwelling is Lord
Quarry, just as it might be Wesley Street or whatever. I don't know this
particular quarry, but I do know that sometimes there were cottages at
quarries - if you go to the Llechwedd quarry at Blaenau Ffestiniog you
can see some, and what they would have been like inside. So I think it
means that they and their neighbours lived in a row of cottages at the
quarry.
Each dwelling will have a separate Head, so the number of Heads of
household listed in the census is the number of dwellings.
A similar confusion can arise when several households appear to be at
exactly the same address, eg 37 High Street. This means that the
property is divided into separate units which are let out to different
families. This is very common in Scotland where it was normal in towns
to have several flats leading off a common stair, all with the same
address. Similarly families living in a row of farm cottages may all
have the same address even though they are in separate dwellings.
Hope this helps,
Ann

Hello Listers...
in the 1881 census for Festiniog, Merioneth, Wales my G-grandparents were shown as
living in a dwelling : Lord Quarry. In checking the neighbors, it shows some of them
living in the same dwelling: Lord Quarry. What would this dwelling be???? and where
would its location be in Festiniog ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
