Hello Marjorie,
If you have only tried Ruthin for the birth certificates, it might be
worth your while also to write to Bala and Wrexham. I looked for the
birth of the eldest sister, Jane Lloyd, of my great-grandmother Ellin
Lloyd, who was born in Corwen in 1842, and both Ruthin and Wrexham
failed to find it. So I assumed it was one of the births that was never
registered. Then I went to visit my third cousin who is descended from
Jane Lloyd, and found he had managed to get it from Bala! So I would
write to Bala.
Where you would look if you still have no luck (and in any case for the
1835 birth) depends on what church or chapel you think the family might
have belonged to. The parish registers for Corwen are in the Merioneth
Record Office at Dolgellau, and this includes baptisms from 1719-1963. I
think I have seen microfilm of these registers for the period you are
interested in also in the Ruthin Archives. If they were chapel, the
records may be harder to find, but you might find them at the National
Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. There are copies of some at Ruthin, but
I can't remember if they go quite up to 1837.
Best wishes,
Ann

I am a newcomer to this list and would be very grateful for some advice on
how to find the births or any other information of my great grandfather John
Collins and his brother Enoch, and any other members of the family as yet
unknown to me.
According to later census information both John and Enoch Collins were born
in Corwen, Merionethshire. John in 1835 and Enoch in 1837, but sadly he
too seems to have missed the 'new' regulations about registration of births
as the registrar at Ruthin had now record of him. By 1861 both men were
living in Monmouthshire and working as Ironstone Miners, Enoch seems to have
been lodging with John and his wife Margaret. If anyone has access to the
1841 census for Merioneth and could look up this family I would be very
grateful. I understand that the parish records have been transcribed as far
as 1812, can anyone suggest where I can look for information relating to the
late 1830s please
