I am a little confused about some records I am trying to find. My ggg
grandfather's death certificate shows he was born about 1841 in Corwen Wales
and that his parents were William Phillips & Anne Watkins. However I cannot
find any reference to church records for 1841 in Corwen they seem to end in
1837. When I was searching the LDS records there is a note against one of
the records that states:-
"The ancient parish of Corwen comprised the thirteen townships of Aberalwen,
Bodorlas, Bonwm, Carrog, Do^l or Tre'r Ddo^l, Gwernihywel, Hendreforfudd,
Llygadog, Mwstwr, Rhagad, Tirllannerch, Trewyn and Ucheldref. The township
of Gwernihywel was detached and lay between the parishes of Cerrigydrudion,
Pentrefoelas and Ysbyty Ifan. In 1863 the townships of Gernihywel became
part of the parish of Ysbyty Ifan and the townships of Bodorlas and
Hendreforfudd and part of the township of Rhagad went to the parish of
Llansanffraid Glyndyfrdwy. In 1865 the townships of Carrog, Mwstwr and
Tirllannerch and the remainder of the township of of Rhagad went to form the
new parish of Glyndyfrdwy. Marriages in this list are confined to those
celebrated at the parish church Corwen."
"The parish of Glyndyfrdwy was formed on 20th November 1866 out of the
parish of Corwen and included the townships of Carrog, Mwstwr and
Tirllannerch and parts of the townships of Bonwm and Rhagad. Marriages in
this list are confined to those celebrated at the parish church
Glyndyfrdwy."
Is there a town and parish called Corwen or is it just an old parish?
