The "church" building in Bala was a chapel of ease to Llanycil,
although references to an earlier building are scarce. Edward Lhuyd
(1670-1709) mentioned an old churchyard and reference locally to the
prior existence of a chapel in the town. A new chapel of ease was
built in town in 1810, which lasted until about 1855 when Christ
Church (the present building) was built.

The settlement of Bala was located in Llanycil, not in Llanfor.
