Thanks for sending this interesting article about the Welsh in Oneida County,
New York State, USA. My great grandparents settled there after leaving
Denbigh, Denbighshire.
Another book of the Welsh in that area is MEMORY STONES
by Jay G. Williams III. It is a history of Welsh-Americans in central New
York and their churches. It is published by Purple Mountain Press,
Fleischmans, NY. 235 pages
I was interested to see mention of Utica in an email last week - was
this another place to which a lot of Welsh people emigrated? I think one
of the emails I have mentions it as being in "upstate New York" - this
probably seems terribly ignorant, but what exactly does upstate here
mean? Does it mean to the north, in the city, or away from the city?
I discovered a couple of months ago that some relations from Ffestiniog
by the name of Ephraim had gone to Utica around 1900, and that some of
their descendants had come back to Wales for a visit since then. I would
be very interested in making contact with these descendants, and would
welcome suggestions on how I might trace them in Utica.
Best wishes,
Ann
