Ann I was born and raised in the Hudson valley in New York state, I have a
friend staying here from Florida for a month and as I'm not the most
domesticated person on earth feel submerged in entertaining and cooking at
present, but will be in touch again. Also remember something about Ephraims
in Anglesey a few years back. If you don't hear from me by July 14th please
get in touch, I should be back to normal by then and will have been in touch
myself.

Subject: Re: [MER] Welsh in New York State
I was interested to see mention of Utica in an email last week - was
this another place to which a lot of Welsh people emigrated? I think one
of the emails I have mentions it as being in "upstate New York" - this
probably seems terribly ignorant, but what exactly does upstate here
mean? Does it mean to the north, in the city, or away from the city?
I discovered a couple of months ago that some relations from Ffestiniog
by the name of Ephraim had gone to Utica around 1900, and that some of
their descendants had come back to Wales for a visit since then. I would
be very interested in making contact with these descendants, and would
welcome suggestions on how I might trace them in Utica.
Best wishes,
Ann
