Sherene, the following book which you should be able to get on
Interlibrary
loan might be of help. I thought I had a copy but can't put my hand on it
at
the moment to check.
Owen, Hugh J.. - Merioneth volunteers and local militia during the
Napoleonic wars (1795-1816). - Dolgelley : Hughes Bros., 1934.
It might explain what William Ellis was doing in Cornwall at least even if
it doesn't mention him in person.

The book "Owen, Hugh J.. - Merioneth volunteers and local militia during the
Napoleonic wars (1795-1816)" is available on-line on my website:
http://dolgellau.me.uk/D/Militia/index.htm
However I suspect that William Ellis, if he was stationed away from
Merionethshire would not have been a member of the local (volunteer) militia,
but would have been a full time member of the Merioneth Regiment of Militia
and as hugh Owen says in the preface to the book "The Merioneth Local Militia
must not be confused with the Merioneth Regiment of Militia".
In the 1930's the account books of the Regiment were in the private hands of
the Vaughans of Nannau. I believe, but am not certain, that they have now ben
transfered to the Dolgellau branch of Gwynedd County Archives.
