I suppose by Blaenau you mean Blaenau Ffestiniog? If so there were quite
a few chapels there - my grandparents were married in the Maenofferen
Chapel there in 1907. That chapel is no longer there but I know there
were others.
Aha, your message about the cemeteries has just come in, so that answers
my first question! This Blaenau is in Merioneth, and Bethesda, I think,
is in Caernarfonshire.
The cemetery at Llan Ffestiniog is attached to St Michael's church.
There are fiches of the M.I.s in the National Library, Aberystwyth, (and
probably in other places too) and the records of burials are in the
Dolgellau Archive. Someone did tell me something about the other
cemetery you mention when I was in Wales last month, but I'm afraid I
don't remember what it was. I think it was attached to one of the
chapels. My family are all in the big cemetery at Llan.
Some chapel records are in the National Library too, but some have been
lost. My mother's second cousin rescued some from a pile of rubbish when
the chapel next door to her in Llanberis was being demolished! If you
want the information from the marriage certificate, it would probably be
more productive to order the marriage certificate - look at the
information about civil registration on the Genuki pages to find out
where to write - if you have problems with this, ask me again. Unless
you live in Aberystwyth, this is probably the most cost-effective way of
getting the information - cheaper than writing to Southport.
Best wishes,
Ann
