(Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday here in the U.S., I'm submitting my second batch of
obituaries on Wednesday instead of Thursday. These will also be my last submittals until
after January due to the holidays and some minor surgery.)
I have submitted the full obituaries on the following individuals to the Wales-Gen-L
Mailing List. I have summarized below the details of each submittal. If anyone is
interested in one of these and wishes to receive a copy off-list, please send your e-mail

1. Mrs. Ruth PROTHEROE, Died 27 Apr 1902, Scranton, PA, USA: Age 70; emigrated to U.S.
from Merthyr Tydvil, Wales, in 1868; before their emigration they conducted an extensive
grocery business in Wales; survived by the following children: Mrs. Davis, wife of Rev.
W. Davis of Providence, Pa.; R.J., Edwin, Thomas, William, all of Scranton; she was a
sister of John Davis, a merchant at Dowlais, Wales.
2. Mrs. William D. SIMON, Died 14 May 1902, Miner's Mills, PA, USA: Born in South
Wales on May 6, 1847; daughter of William Thomas; married to William Simon in Ferndale,
Glamorganshire, South Wales, on September 4, 1876; five children were born - Lewis, in
Wales, Mary A. and William T., John M. and Idris (Idris died on September 4, 1889, at the
age of 11 months, and Mary A. died on June 3, 1893, at the age of 15 years).
3. Mrs. Jane WILLIAMS, Died 28 Jul 1902, Forty Fort, PA, USA: Aged 84 years, 11 months
and 13 days old; maiden name was Jane Waters; born in Argoed, Monmouthshire Wales; on Aug.
28, 1841 she married William Williams; they emigrated to the U.S. in March 1844, coming
first to Philadelphia; one son, David, was born in Wales; five other children were born in
Philadelphia, four of whom survive their parents - David, Margaret, Mary and Catherine;
they moved to Trucksville in May 1884, which is where her husband died on March 4, 1885.
