I know this is going to be a rather vuage request for assistance, but I
don't have much to go on and don't know where to really start. I'm looking
for info
on a Cadwalader Morris born in Merionethshire,Wales ca.1685 and at a time
unknown, left for America. He married at Philladelphia, Pa. USA in 1710 to
Elizabeth Morgan. I've picked up on something that indicates his father may
have been Thomas Morris. Any/all help would be greatly appriciated.

Dear Jane
My curiosity regarding your question about surgeons/physicians prompted me
to access the following sites for more information about surgeons:
http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/welcome/history_of_the_college/
http://www.rcsed.ac.uk/heritage/default.asp
They relate to the Royal College of Surgeons in England and Scotland
respectively. I do not think that Wales had an equivalent institution at
the
time that Thomas Jones was alive.
I also looked up another reference about surgeons from Wales, a booklet
published several years ago about David Samwell (1751-1798) who was
surgeon
on Captain Cook's expeditions in the Pacific Ocean. David
Samwell's
background provides some context for your Thomas Jones. The booklet was
written by the late Prof. E. G. Bowen and published by the University of
Wales Press in 1974.
Samwell (Samuel) was the son of William Samuel, vicar of Nantglyn in
Denbighshire and grandson of Edward Samuel of Bettws Gwerfil Goch and
Llangar (in Merioneth at the time). As well as being a clergyman Edward
Samuel was an author and translator of Welsh literary works.
Records of David Samwell's early education are non-existent. Bowen
suggests
that he may have been educated privately, and goes on to say that
"the
prospective doctor, wishing to serve with the navy, learned medecine and
surgery while servinc on borad ship. The Surgeon's Hall conducted the
examinations of those who thought themselves ready, and the candidate was,
if successful, given the title of Surgeon's Mate or Assistant Surgeon, and
later, after further examination, he might be given the title of Surgeon
of
the Ship. These examinations were instituted espeically for the Navy,
and
were quite separate from the examinations held by the Surgeon's Hall for
those intending to go into civil practice." David Samwell presented
himself
for examination before the Court of the Royal College of Surgeons in
1775
and was found qualified for service in the Navy. In 1776, he joined
Captain
Cook on the Resolution.
Samwell lived in interesting times and moved in interesting company while
on shore. He was an active member of London Welsh Societies and wrote
poetry
in Welsh. His geographic and anthropological observations regarding
his
voyages with Captain Cook are apparently very interesting. He died,
unmarried, in London.
Incidentally, I ran a check on Brynbannon on the web to find the location.
Instead I found reference to a recent sale of sheepdogs at Bryn Bannon
Bach
that indicated that one dog had been sold for over £3000. Some
dog!!!
And yes, I have Davies from the Llanfor/Llandderfel/Llandrillo area in my
background too!!!!
