Hello Nic,
The Merioneth Marriage index comes in two parts, 1754 - 1812 and 1813 - 1837.
It is what it says an index of marriages and not a transcription of Parish
Record details, so any possible marriage found in the index should, ideally,
be checked in the PRs.
Entries are arranged alphabetically on a parish by parish basis a typical
example looks like this:
0029 1819/11/20 03 DAVIES, Robert S Mer 16 THOMAS, Mary S Mer 03 B
The first number is a reference for cross checking entries from the
alphabetical list of brides. 1819/11/20 is the date (20th Nov 1819) 03 is the
parish where the marriage took place (Dolgellau). S = single. Mer 16 and Mer
03 are the codes for the parishes of the bride & groom (him Llanfachreth her
Dolgellau) and B signifies that the marriage was by banns.
The index is available in microfiche or printed form.
The prices are
1754 - 1812 Print £23.50 Micro £10.50
1813 - 1837 Print £12.50 Micro £5.50
The microfiche version can be ordered on-line through Genfair
http://www.genfair.com/shop/system/index.html
(However Genfair now add VAT, which you don't have to pay if you order direct
from Gwynedd FHS)
Both versions can be ordered by cheque payment from Gwynedd FHS, details of
how to place an order are available from the Gwynedd FHS web-site
http://www.gwynedd.fsbusiness.co.uk/
Similar indices are available for the districts of Caernarfonshire and for
Anglesey.
For all of those who have asked for lookups, I am working my way through them
slowly, but the pollen count has been high today and hay-fever and microfiche
readers don't go together very well :-(
All the best
Alwyn

In an earlier note to another lister you mentioned that you have a
marriage
index for merionethshire. I would be really grateful if you could tell me
how i could get hold of this for myself.
Thank you!
