OK.
Try this, see what you think.
George Owen killed at Gallipoli.
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=689595
gives parents as W & M Owen
1901 at Tynyfawnog, Llanfair, Meirionethshire (Harlech area I think. Don't know area well)gives
William 35, Margaret 34, George 8, William 7, Margaret 5, Richard 3, Mary 9 months. And Head is Jane Owen mother of the 1st William.
Ticks all the boxes apart from I can't yet place William as war casualty. Richard would have named his two sons after his two brothers? Not conclusive but something to go on.

Searching for parents of Richard Owen, born in Ffestiniog later lived in Dyffryn Ardudwy was known to have two brothers who died during the great war in Gallipoli, also known to have a sister possibly two.
Richard left wales to marry Annie Vincent from Cornwall then returned to Wales where he had a Son George born, returned again to Cornwall where he had William Owens, and then my dad desmond Owens, it is thought that onlong the way his wife added the s on the end of owen.

Dear Trevor
Many thanks. I have trawled the Passenger Lists some time ago. However it
might be worth doing again as records are added to the web sites. I agree
that Liverpool is the most likely port.
I have not tried looking on a Liverpool census however, so that is worth a
try.
Thanks again.

Hello list!
I have a Robert Roberts, born in 1843 at Llanwuchllyn. On the 1861 census
he is aged 18, living at Penarran, Llanwuchllyn.
He does not appear on the 1871 census. I know he was buried in St
Catherines Cemetery, Ontario, Canada, in July 1891 and is described as a
marine engineer.
My query is whether it is likely that he acquired his marine engineering
knowledge before going to Canada. As Bala Lake is very close to
Llanwuchllyn, is it likely that he learned his craft tending boats on that
lake?
If so, would these craft have been commercial or for pleasure (difficult to
imagine in the 1860!)
Any comments would be much appreciated.

I have a brick wall in respect of the birth place of Richard Roberts the
Blind Harpist. Research I have done confirms he was born in 1769 but where.
1. Was he born in Cyta'r Geifr on Lleyn?
2. was he born in Cefn y Mein on Leyn?
3. Was be born at Taltreuddyn, Duffryn Ardudwy?
Does anyone recognise these names??
Richard Roberts was a brilliant harpist in spite of his blindness and I have
read several articles about his successes in the Eisteddfodau. I have his
marriage and death records but not birth.
Any help would be appreciated.
regards
Geraint
Geraint,
According to the Welsh Biography Online (National Library of Wales),
Richard Roberts was born in Ardudwy. There is also a reference in the
biographical note that he was born in Cefn Y Mein. I checked another
reference - Adgof uwch anghof: llythyrau llauaws o Brif Enwogion Cymry
by Myrddin Fardd (1883) [Available on Google Books} - which suggests
in a footnote that Richard Roberts lived only a short in Cefyn y Main.
The 1851 Census clinches it for Dyffryn Ardudwy: Richard Roberts, (82)
Bangor Street, Llanbeblig, Harpist, Dyffryn, Merionethshire. Blind.
Wife Ann (63) born Llanrwst, and daughter Ann (23) born Caernarfon.

Hi Mel
Just found your message about the Roberts of East Hendred. There are an awful lot of them! I'm descended from some of them and have also found a Robert Roberts Married to a Jane about the date in your post but am unable to go back any further. Perhaps we should swap notes?
