Thanks David. Good idea. Was emailing without my notes in front of me!

It may help your searching to spell the name of the town 'Machynlleth'.

We have been searching for census records of the above ancestor and his
family without success for some time. There are something like 60,000 David
Davies in the 1851 census!
We know David had a son Richard born about 1825 in Machllyneth and that
David was a Flannel manufacturer. He is shown in the 1840s trade directories
as a Flannel Manufacturer in Machllyneth. By 1851 Richard had moved to
London and eventually started a flannel manufacturing business there.
However, we have not been able to locate his family's details back in Wales.
Can anyone do a look-up in both the 1851 and 1841 censuses for us and
ideally follow David through the censuses into old age?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi
I sent a reply to the above email last night using the reply button but it when I opened my emails this morning it had been returned with a message saying that the rootsweb address ( gateway) wasn't now available. Hence using this method, so I'm sorry for the delay
I believe this might be the family in the parish of Llanuwchllyn although William isn't at home - possibly was elsewhere but it will not be possible to discover him in the 1841 census and certainly no one fits in the local Meirionethshire parishes

I've just found the 1841 census for Pennantlliw. Robert & Margaret are at Wern Ddu but no sign of a William!

If he left for the USA in 1845 he should appear in the 1841 census. Unfortunately this census only recorded whether a person was born in the census county or not. No actually place of birth is given which makes things more difficult, especially with a surname like Williams!
Llanuwchllyn is a village to the south-west of Llyn Tegid and was formerly in the county of Merionethshire. It is now in the county of Gwynedd.
The 1841 census for Llanuwchllyn is quite small but there is no William Cadwalader Williams there, so I assume that he'd moved elsewhere? Or perhaps he may have just used the name William Williams, and there are *lots* of William Williams' in that area!
On the 1851 census there is a Robert Williams, born c1805, Llanuwchllyn who is a Calvinistic Methodist Minister and Farmer, living at Wern Ddu (presumable a farm?) in the township of Pennantlliw in Llanuwchllyn. This may be the brother you mention? He is living with his sister Margaret, born c1801, Llanuwchllyn and both are unmarried. They are both still there in 1861 &1871.
Unfortunately I can't find Wern Ddu on the 1841 census for Pennantlliw (which might solve the problem?).

Good morning (from the U.S.),
I'm looking to see if someone from Wales can help me. I have been told that my Great Great Great Grandfather is William Cadwaladar Williams, born March 4th, 1814, moved to the U.S. in 1845, New York. I am trying to continue researching my family tree. My home e-mail is rodger2000(a)yahoo.com.
If anyone has any information of more guidance for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Hello all,
Looking for John Jones, the younger brother of my 2nd-great-grandfather,
Richard Williams. It does appear that their mother remarried. After many
years, I finally discovered this crack in my brick wall! We do not yet
know their parent's names.
Would anyone be willing to do an 1841 census lookup for John Jones living
in Ffestiniog, born in 1815?
John Jones lived in Ffestiniog by 1841; for as his USA obituary states:
"Early in age he moved to Festiniog, where he married and lived for many
years." He was born in Cwmpenanner, near Bala. I'm not sure if he was
married to his wife Catherine (b. abt. 1820) by then, but their first
child was born in 1843. He immigrated to America (Vermont, then to Iowa)
with his wife and three children sometime after 1849.
He had a brother, William Jones (probably younger), two sisters (either
full or half) and his older brother (probably half-brother), Richard
Williams (b. 1814).
Any help would be very appreciated.
