As your own post shows the Bebb surname is mainly associated with the county of Montgomeryshire rather than Merionethshire.
The Montgomeryshire Bebb family history has been fairly well researched. A good place to start looking for this research and to contact other researchers looking into the Bebb surname would be Malcom Bebb's site

Hi Deb,
>From the information you give I assume that you are looking at William and Jane Edwards who lived in Llangar in 1861 and 1871?
William was not born in "Llandulas" though! It should read "Llandrillo" (another transcription error by Ancestry!!!)
1881 census: Jane (59, Bala), farmer, is living in Ty Tanygraig, Llangar with Henry (17, Llangar)
1871 census: William (65, Llandrillo), farmer, and Jane (49, Llanycil) are living in Ty Tanygraig, Llangar with children Hugh (16, Llangar); Harriet Ann (11, Llangar); Thomas (9, Llangar) and Harri (7, Llangar)
1861 census: William (57, Llandrillo), farmer, and Jane (40, Bala) are living at Ty Tanygraig with children William (20, Corwen); David (14, Corwen); Robert (11, Corwen); Samuel (8, Corwen); Hugh (1, Llangar) and Harriet Anne (1, Llangar)
1851 census: William (45, Llandrillo), shepherd, and Jane (31, Bala) are living in Pentre Bach, Trewyn, Corwen. They have children Walter [or Watkin?] (15, Corwen); William (10, Corwen); Mary (8, Corwen); Evan (5, Corwen) and Robert (1, Corwen)
But I can't see a perfect match in 1841! Was there a remarriage? If so, this looks a possibility:
1841 census: William (35), shepherd, and Gwen (30) are living in Clawdd Poncen (near Trewyn), Corwen. They have children Jane (9); Edward (7); Watkin (6); Margaret (4); John (2) and William (2m)
So I'm not convinced that the William Edwards you are looking for was the one living at "Craig Ddu" in 1841?
However, there is another William and Jane living very close to "Craig Ddu", Rhewl in 1841!
In 1841 a William (35), farmer, and Jane (30) were living in "Wern Ddu", Cymo, Llantysilio. They had children John (5), Evan (3) and Ann (1).
Craig Ddu and Wern Ddu farms are very close.
Ian

I was trying to trace Margaret Jones on the census at Graig ddu. She married John Thomas at Llantysilio Church in the parish of Llantysilio on 19th August 1848. Her residence at the time of marriage is given as Graig ddu. Her father was Peter Jones a Farmer.
I have been unable to find her at Graig ddu on any of the census and, as you say, the Edwards family are there in 1841 & 1851.
I suspect that my Jones' were labourers on the farm and moved about as and where the work took them. I have no evidence that the Edwards family are connected to me at all.
In 1841 it looks as though the head is possibly the grandfather (he is John Edwards age 70). Two of the younger members of the family, Thomas (25) & John (15) are still there in 1851 - Thomas as head and John as brother - but I suppose you already know that. There is a William Edwards in 1841 (age 20) living at Graig ddu but that doesn't fit in with your birth date of 1806.
Happy hunting.
Graham

Thank you for the information. I had looked for Hugh Williams in the books
and hadn't found him there. A visit today to the Dolgellau Archives and a
report in the Rhedegydd confirmed that he is buried at Bethesda. Relooked at
the GFHS fiches for cemeteries and realised that the whole place was known
as Bethesda - his parents & brother [John Osborne Williams who was a
talented musician & organist who died 1891at the age of 22] are buried
there. So we think that perhaps he was buried in the same grave although his
name is not recorded.

This is probably too late for your visit if you came today! Bethesda
cemetery is the name of the whole of the large cemetery in Manod. Part of
it, the part by the side of the chapel grounds and behind the public
toilets, used to be the chapel cemetery ie Bethesda chapel, but it merged
with the public / council / non-denominationalcemetery some time after that
was created around it in the late 19th century and since then has been one.
It has been recorded by Gwynedd Family History Society and published in

Chris,
Can't help you with the cemeteries, but I have a few Pughs in Abergynolwyn.
One was a preacher in the Welsh Revival and was known as Cynolwyn Pugh.
These Pughs hail from Tywyn originally. Just wondering,

Hello Norman,
My answer to your question is that I don't know. She won't be found amongst
the graves stones, because if any were used during her time they won't be
legible any more.
You should be able to find ancestral charts for Lewis Annwyl that trace him
back (literally) to Adam and Eve, your difficulty with Lewis' ancestry will
be deciding where genealogy ends and fantasy begins.
Because of the sexist nature of 17th century society I doubt if you will
find much evidence about Jane Pugh. You might be lucky and find a reference
to her in a will. There is little doubt that Jane Pugh was of good stock,
she wouldn't have married Lewis Annwyl otherwise.
Marriage had more to do with politics and land-owning in those times than it
had to do with love. Your difficulty is that Jane Pugh was Lewis Annwyl's
second wife, Lewis had got "the benefits of marriage" from his first
attempt, most importantly a son and heir. This means that Jane was likely to
be "socially acceptable" for marriage to Lewis but with little to offer
other than "wifely benefits" to a widow. A younger daughter of minor gentry
probably, but not a person likely to be mentioned in contemporary documents.
Sorry
Alwyn

I think I've asked for information on this topic previously but I'm still not clear which is the Bethesda cemetery. I'm trying to discover graves in Bethesda cemetery. Although I've now discovered that a Hugh Osborne Williams who died in 1929 is buried at Bethesda, previously when I searched the GFHS monumental inscriptions I failed to find him in any of the Stiniog cemeteries. Barry,
Though I am late in doing so I would like to thank you for the translation you did for me in September; I appreciated it very much. It is always interesting to see the nice things that were published about an ancestor.
Thanks again,
Jane A.
Dear Alwyn
I would be so very grateful if you could search for Evan PUGH and Mary (Lewis) of Ty'n Llan, opposite the church in Llanfihangel y Pennant. Also their children Hugh, Evan and a younger Evan who died aged six. My great grandfather Owen moved to Dolgellau and is buried there.

Hi Pat,
Yes, as an American I have ordered documents in Wales by mail and paid
in pounds sterling. It IS expensive. I first bought and obtained a check
in pounds sterling from International Currency Express and then mailed
it to Wales with my order. It worked.
Here is their website:
http://www.foreignmoney.com/
I first heard of this company in Dick Eastman's Genealogical Newsletter
some years back; he used them and recommended them, as I recall. I have
used them several times since then over the years to pay for German
documents. They have been reputable and the process worked. But yes,
doing this is certainly not cheap! But then, neither is flying to Europe.
Good luck,

There are a lot of Pugh's in these graveyards that I may be related to.
Specifically I am looking for Evan Pugh (1827-1885) and Jane Pugh (nee
Thomas) 1834 - 1911. I gather they are both buried at St Mair Tal y Llyn
Is the full list available on line so I can cross reference others that may
be buried there?
Regards
Chris
