Seeking information on Rhyd Sarn, near the town Blaenau Ffestiniog. My
ancestors, David and Laura Peters, lived there before emigrating to the USA
in 1849. The home they lived in is said to still be standing (Hen Felin).
David was a wool manufacturer and ran the mill there which is situated next
to a stream. I would be interested in information about this area, and if
anyone possibly knows of his old home.
Thank you!
Hello Hugh
I don't know if this is the same family you're looking for because I relate it to Llanenddwyn, several miles fron Festineog, but for what it's worth:
1841 Census
Parish of Llanenddwyn
Property Carleg Isaf
Evans Evan age 45 Male Shepherd born in County
Evans Catherine age 55 Female wife born in County
Evans John age 15 Male son born in County
Evans Humphry age 15 Male son born in County
Williams Catherine age 2 Female daughter born in County*
* This Catherine was the daughter of Catherine Evans (late Williams) who had previously been married to a William Williams. (I don't know where.)
I have no information as to where the family lived in later years. My connection is to an earlier marriage of Evan Evans.

Hello Hugh
How about checking for a death/burial for a Catherine WILLIAMS between the
birth of Mary Jane and the date John Evan came to Australia?
I've found the family in Festiniog in 1871-have you got that information?

Maggi (Blythin)

from my email:-
My g g grandparents came from Ffestiniog Merionethshire.
John Evan WILLIAMS b unk (he was a miner).
Supposedly married Catherine JONES in FFestiniog and had one
daughter Mary Jane WILLIAMS b 26 Nov 1870. (I think in Miners Arms Ffestiniog).
The marriage cert we received says this but where is Catherine?? And where did she
come from!
John Evan came to Australia (and his wife is Ellen OWENS). They had 4 sons here.
So the only child of John Evan who was born in Wales is Mary Jane Williams.
The mystery is this...did we get the right certifiacate with Catherine on it...relatives say
yes....or is there 2 wives. Maybe Catherine died after Mary Jane was born?
I cannot advance any further with this tree until I can sort this out....so any help would
be appreciated.
With regards from hot Australia

Dear list,
Can anyone help with my relatives of Llwynmawr, LLanycil?
John Williams Jr (1790-1877) had a daughter Catherine Williams who married John Thomas (1827-1905). They appear on one of Ceiri Griffiths' charts. John may have been the son of John Williams Sr and grandson of Ann Williams Llwynmawr (will 1823) and nephew of William Williams Llwynmawr (will 1831).
It is interesting to note that the John Williams Sr was resident in the USA in 1820 and 1831. He had children Cadwalader, William, John and Edward Williams and daughter Ann Jones.
Merioneth QS records have a William Cadwalader resident in Llwynmawr ca 1743-63 (juror) and a Cadwalader William in 1783 and 5 (juror). In 1805, Cadwalader William, gent is mentioned in an order of filiation of John William yeoman, both of LLwynmawr.
I haven't yet attacked MIs or the local record office so any help before I do would be greatly appreciated.
The Gwynedd Archives and National LIbrary have a dearth of information on Llwynmawr which makes me wonder was it part of the Watkins-Wynn estate? Any help there wd be appreciated too.
Yours sincerely,
Ian Thompson

Hi All...
I have just started some research on my grandmothers family. My grandmother
(Lillie May Royle) was born in Rhyl in 1902 and through the 1901 census I
found her mother in Rhyl, Lizzie Royle (formerly JONES) born Bala 1875. Her
husband as listed on my g/mothers birth certificate was Thomas Royle,
Bricklayer and he was not listed at home at time of census. Unable to find
any details on him or evidence of the marriage.
I did manage to find her family in previous census' which seem to match up
with Lizzie Royle, though she is listed as Elizabeth .
The Jones family details are as follows:
Robert Jones born Bala 1841 - father - blacksmith
Mary A. Jones born Worcester 1844 - mother
children
Ann
Edward
Margaret
Elizabeth
Mary
Kate
It appears the family resided in Bala over all census periods.
I was wondering if any of these names crossover with anyone else and if
anybody knows of any good places to research the Bala area/records -
particularly internet.
Regards
Andrea

Diane,
Go to http://www.geograph.org.uk/ and enter Maesafallen in the search
field, you will be provided with 170 images within 10km of Maesafallen.
These are photographs provided by readers of that site, and can vary
in quality and accuracy of information, but nevertheless interesting.

Now I am begging an odd request. If any of you are living in Wales, lucky
you, I would love to see some pictures of the Merionethshire area. I have hit
the Internet as much as possible but pics are very imitated. Show a lot of
Wales all over. I would esp enjoy any of the Bala area or even the Maesy
fallen farm area. That is where my "Jones" came from. I hope to visit Wales
but I am a stay at home caregiver with a dear "mum" with Alzheimer's. And
travel for me is limited to say the least. So forgive my bold begging's.
I wish everyone on this list a wonderful and prosperous New Year. Maybe we
can even have the Peace. It is worth a thought and prayer.
My best to you all and I so enjoy reading about everyone's search.
