In your research at Llanenddwyn, do you recall seeing anything on Edward Ellis & his wife, Gwen Griffith. Their son, William (b: 1815 at Llanenddwyn), was my greatgrandfather. He, in turn, married Catherine Evans, daughter of Evan Evans & Mary ?. There was also a Lewis Ellis, son of John Ellis, married to Laura Thomas, that I am intersted in. I'm wondering if William and Lewis were related - both having been in Llanenddwyn. I have been told that Ellises were thick on the ground around there.

The source was the 1801 Bishop Transcript for Llanenddwyn. In the course of my research several years ago I copied several years of the Llanenddwyn BTs that included 1800 and 1801. Hope this helps.

Dear Doreen & John,
Thanks for your reply, all I know is that Ellen was born around 1853,
according to her marriage certificate she was 23 they were married in 1876
but according to the 1901 census it states she is 45 years old which makes
her born in 1856.The reason I was looking for 100 High Street is that
address was mentioned by my mother-in-law Ellen's granddaughter.
Thanks again
Judith

Hi Judith
Here is one that might fit, wife Elinor was a widow in 1861, they are not in High Street but could have moved to High Street later on or maybe Ellen was working in High Street at the time of her marriage. Did you get the High Street address from her marriage certificate?

Hello
In 1995 I was given by a shopkeeper in Bala a list of the numbers in various
streets, including High Street. It had been stuck on a wall and so is not a
perfect image. Apparently the numbers had changed sometime previously. If
anyone wants it, it is 438KB in Jpg, please send me an email with the words
"Bala Street Numbers" in the subject line.
Cheers Jane

Judith,
I was interested to read your post. My Great Grand Father John William
Phillips was a Woolen Weaver, Tailor and Barber, also living on High Street
in Bala. 26 High Street. On the 1881 Census, they had a Mary Jones, Neice,
living with them. It isn't much, but I hope it helps.

Good Day,
I just had some library time and found some information on a John Phillips from Bala.
My John Phillips was born Tregeiriog, Denbighshire, on 30 Dec 1827/1827
Wife Margaret Roberts born 1827 Llanycil, Merionethshire.
I am looking for the date that they got married. There oldest Son John William Phillips born 7 Jan 1859. So I am guessing that they were married around 1857/1857.
I found a John Phillips on the England & Wales, Free BMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983 Record, this John Phillips was registered 1856 Apr-May-Jun, in Bala, but there is no Bride listed with him. How do I know if this is the correct John Phillips?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Barbara Ann Phillips

Dear Alan
I have read with great interest your information regarding Gwerclas. My interest lies with Eliza Lloyd who married Hugh Jones in 1860. They had a son John Eyton Jones in 1863 who was my great grandfather. Hugh died in 1869 of TB and Eliza remarried to John Morris in 1872.
I have quite a lot of information about our family tree and I am certainly interested in Gwerclas. It sounds like a fascinating place. Have you visited at all? I noticed it was up for sale in 2005 you can see a picture of it if you put Gwerclas in the search engine.
It would be really interesting if you have pursued any further into these families.
regards
Richard Eyton-Jones

I have been perplexed why the notable Welsh Quaker authors writing about William Penn's venture with them in the Welsh Tract outside Philadelphia have noted Richard Owen as a signer of Welsh Quaker Certificates of Removal but none of them have explained his kith and kin relationships to his co-signers. This is unique in that each signer has a detailed breakdown of just who they are in the patronymic system. The obvious explaination is that they simply did not know who Richard Owen was and declined to state this. Some American researchers believed that Richard was a son of one of the Humphreys of Llwyndu - in particular Owen Humphrey but this can not be validated. Richard's wife Rachel Robert 1663-1729 is just as much a mystery. Some thought she was of Llwyn-dedwydd - brother of Quaker preacher Hugh Robert but this also can not be established. Owings family lore is universally consistent that Richard and Rachel were Welsh. One of the early farms established here was Pl!
inlimmon (name has various spellings) - which is a mountain in Wales. Any help would be appreciated with this puzzle. Thanks David Owings

My ancestor Capt. Richard Owen 1662-1716 changed his name in America to Owings after experimenting with seven spelling variations. Originally, researchers speculated that he was simply Americanizing the Owen name from the Welsh patronymic system. A question has arisen that the new spelling was the Welsh spoken or phonetic spelling of Owen. I have found the "Owing" spelling as early as 1675 in Wales. Is the Owen name prounced differently in Welsh than English? The letter "G" seems uncharacteristic of English syntax. Thanks David Owings

I was wondering if anybody has MI's for the above cemeteries. My gggaunt, Gwen (Richards) Jones married a Richard Jones on March 13,1857. He was a widower, his wife Ann (Evans) Jones dieing Dec. 6,1850 at Braichllwyd, Mallwyd. Gwen died in childbirth as did their daughter on Nov.28,1959. They were living at TyGwyn, Llanymawddwy then. I have found a death for a Richard Jones, Ty'nybraich, Cerrist on May 2, 1882, 79 years which I think could be dead on. I have been unable to find the burials for this family. Gwen was the daughter of Evan & Margaret Richards who were living at Llanwddyn at that time but can't find the burial there.
Thanks in advance for any help. Catherine
