Thank you for checking that.
Would that grid reference work on oldmaps.co.uk? He was my 5th & 6th
great grandfather.
Actually, that David Jones emigrated in 1721 not 1731. By 1731 he had
moved within Chester County Pennsylvania from Radnor Township to
Caernarvon Township.

Grid Ref 947308. Looks as if it would be in Llangower parish.

Hi Jane,
There is a Parc Derwgoed on contemporary maps and old-maps
(www.old-maps.co.uk). The reference on Old Maps is 297714,338271 and
south of Sarnau
This Parc is a woodland, which makes sense in terms of the origins of
the word as a place protected for hunting. It may necessary for you to
identify dwellings around the wood to find the right one for your ancestor.
As to parish, I'm tempted to say Llandderfel lacking a detailed parish map.

Thanks, Gwen, I found that Parc, but the obituary stated Y Parc, Sarnau so
I'm still confused.
Since Sarnau is NE of Bala would there have been a dwelling on Sarnau
referred to as Y Parc? In that case would that be in the Llancyl Parish?
This was in the early 1800 to the late 1880s. Perhaps Y Parc, Sarnau no
longer exists. I'm hoping someone familiar with the region can help me.

I have been told that my family has some link with the Roberts burial case at Llanfrothen. I believe that the Robert Roberts who died in Llanfrothen in April 1888 (and whose burial was the subject of a court case successfully defended by the young David Lloyd George) may have been an uncle or cousin of my own branch of the Roberts family who lived in Cefn, near Wrexham. If anyone can provide any information about the ancestors, siblings or contemporaries of this Robert Roberts, which could help me establish exactly where the link occurs, I'd be most grateful. Many thanks.
Gwen & others have been corresponding about the ROBERTS family of Trawscoed, Llanuwchllyn.
I have come across a photo of a member of this family in the book "Y Bwrdd Du : ysgolion Edeirnion, Penllyn ac Uwchaled mewn lluniau" ["The Black Board : schools of Edeirnion, Penllyn & Uwchaled in pictures"] by R Eryl EDWARDS, printed by Gwasg y Lolfa, published by Nereus of Bala, December 2002. The book contains 341 school photos, ranging from Llanuwchllyn in 1897 (some 39 children, only 5 named) to several schools in 2002 with full lists of children. The photos are not arranged by date or by school, and there is no index - though I have made up an index by school. Ideally (!) there is a need for indexes by name & by abode, but this would be quite a task.
Photo number 75 shows "Grwp 1 yn Ysgol y Pandy, Llanuwchllyn yn 1905" : 3 teachers and 29 children, all but 8 identified. One child is listed as "Catherine Roberts, Trawscoed".
Jeff Delves
Dianne was asking about the above, who moved to Pennsylvania c1731.
The name "Maseyfallen" suggested Maesyfallen to me, but I couldn't locate such a place.
However, there is a Maesafallen nr Bala, & I daresay it has had a variety of spellings in the past. Found in Cwm Hirnant (ie the Hirnant valley) about 4 miles SSE of Bala, on the road between Rhosygwaliau & Lake Vyrnwy. Grid Ref 947308. Looks as if it would be in Llangower parish.

Jeff, A big florida orange is sent your way. Thank you. I hang onto
everything for research.
Wish I could find some "Jones" cousins in that area!!
David's father was a minister and did not leave Wales as far as I can figure.

Could someone help me locate Y Parc, Sarnau, Merioneth? I have been unable to find it on a map. I am able to find Sarnau, but can get no further. Also, what parish would this be in?
Thanks,
Jane

Hi Bryn,
Yes, that is the David Roberts about whom I'd like more information. I have
a photocopy of a book written by a son of Jane Roberts named DR Daniels. In
it he lists all of the family tree he knows about of the families and
ancestry of Robert Roberts and Catherine Jones. When I do research I like to
get as complete a picture of the extended family as I can so that is why I
am interested in David, the brother of Jane Roberts. I think the one record
missing that would go a long way to illuminating things is the monumental
inscriptions for the parish church of Llanuwchllyn. With the repetition of
names that occur in the various records I find that the MIs often are very
helpful!.
A couple of weeks ago I obtained a copy of the will for Cadwalader Roberts,
the grandfather of Robert Roberts who married Catherine Jones. In it he
lists his living children and dear wife, though not by name, and all
grandsons named.... I think I'll post it later as it gave a lot of
information.
It sounds like the notes you have may be based on the book by DR Daniels.
Would you please tell me more about the notes, who wrote them etc.
Thanks for your interest, I appreciate your time.

We are also wondering if Hugh Roberts (listed as father of David) above is either a brother or brother in law of Robert Roberts at Trawsgoed. There is a baptism for a Hugh son of Robert Cadwaladr & Margaret but the age doesn't quite match the above, but that isn't unusual is it, and then there is also a marriage of a Hugh Roberts (age 21 son of a Robert Jones - tailor) to a Gwen Cadwaladr (age 20) February 1, 1785.
We also think Robert Cadwaladr may have married twice, once to Margaret and then to a Mary. Do you have that?

(There were Jones's at Deildre in 1841 and 1851 but not a David) There was a David Davies in Deildre Ucha in 1861.)

Here is another possibility
1871 - I wonder if he perhaps took his mother's name and this is him living at Deildre in 1871

One of the problems may be patronymics.

Hello Listers,
Does anyone have any information about the above named man who was the son
of Robert Roberts and his wife Catherine Jones. He was probably born at
Dolbach In Llanuwchllyn in the early 1800s, about 1812 perhaps. I am unable
to find him in the 1841 census but I find a Henry and Catherine Roberts
living with Robert Roberts and his wife Catherine at Trawscoed. In 1851 the
census identifies Catherine as a granddaughter. The D.R. Daniels book says
that this David Roberts was married and lived at Deildre and that he had 2
children Harry and Catrin. I have followed a likely Henry Roberts in the
Llanuwchllyn area in the 1851, 61,71, 81, and 91 censuses. He never married.
I have checked the MIs for Pandy, Rhosyfedwen, Parc and Llidiardau Chapels
to no avail. If you subtract Henry's age in the census he appears to have
been born in 1832. I am thinking that his mother and father might have been
buried in the parish church of Llanuwchllyn.
Does anyone know anything about these people or have any suggestions for
finding out what happened to David Roberts and his wife?
Does anyone know of a reliable person for hire in the Llanuwchllyn area who
would be interested in looking for tombstones in the parish church?
Thanks for your time.

I sincerely hope that someone might be able to track down these MIs.
I have been searching for years for Jane Seymour who was born at Corris. I
have been hoping to find her parents but no luck.
They could just be in the MIs.
David Roberts
Hi Dianne.
I have a Thomas E or Ellis Jones born 1870 Bala.
Have you got this name in your tree please?
Thanks

I am looking for my Jones connections in Wales, I know, Good Luck. So many
Jones's.
Any way, my David Jones was born in the Bala area in 1709. His father was a
preacher/minister I believe an Episcopal. David joined the Quakers but I
think to get help moving to the colonies in Pennsylvania.
David's father remarried and David did not like his new stepmother. He left
around 1731(we think) and came over to US.
I cant help thinking I have extended family still in Wales. Ring any bells
to anyone. David was born in a farm called "Maseyfallen" Pardon my poor
welsh.
Thanks for looking

Alwyn.
are you writing with ref to Rehoboth grave yard which slipped partialy away?
I tried to gain entrance some 20 years ago.but it was locked and the
graves were totally overgrown with brambles etc.
Whilst visiting my Aunts funeral in 1991 in South Wales. I was informed
by her sister. that the Dolgellau council had
empoyed youths under the then Popular Youth Employment scheme. to
clean-up the graveyard and list all the stones therein. The soft cover
book was posted to me and I extracted all the Lewis's and Evans.I then
required.
within a few days it was retured to the council offices Not the
archives.! I cannot ask my Aunts sister anymore she has since crossed
the bar!

Gosh, I dont know. My Jones line came over to US around 1731. I know he had
family in the Bala area but who stayed behind I do not know as yet. I am
trying to find any one that might know of his father since he was a minister in
Episcopal church.
Sorry I cannot be of help in that century yet. I have hopes.
Thanks for looking
