I'm looking for the marriage details (date, location, parents etc.) of Owen WILLIAMS and Gaynor/Gainor (or any other possible spelling) JONES in Merionethshire.
Owen: born Maentwrog c1797.
Gaynor: All I know is that she was born somewhere in Merionethshire!! c.1800.
As first child was born in Llangower in 1831, I'm assuming the marriage took place somewhere between 1816 - 1831.
Owen is buried in Llanuwchllyn Chapel graveyard, so I'm assuming the couple were probably married in a chapel.
1841 census: resident at Rhydfudr Farm, Llangower, Merionethshire.
Any help very much appreciated.

Hi Janet
John found this in the transcriptions available from the Clwyd Family History Society.
Llanfor Baptisms
1814 July 23 Evan Roberts son of John & Margaret, Gelly, Farmer
Hope this helps
Doreen & John
Hamilton, Canada.
Hi all
I'm new to adding messages here, but I've read so many others have written. I'm hoping someone can fill in a few details about my Merionethshire family.
My Great Great grandfather was Evan Roberts, born at Llanfor about 1815, who married Jane Davies, born at Gwyddelwern about 1816.
On their marriage certificate their respective fathers are shown as John Roberts and Humphrey Davies.
They were married on July 7th 1838 at Gwyddelwern Church, but by the 1841 census they were living at Tynant, Llanfor with Elizabeth, aged 2, and John, aged 2 months.
They later had Margaret (b 1844), Humphrey (b 1845), Jane (b 1848), my great grandfather Evan (b 1851) and Robert (b 1854), and lived at "Park" in 1851.
Because of the number of Roberts in the area at that time, I'm not sure if I've identified the correct John Roberts as Evan Roberts' father.
I've taken an educated guess from the 1841 census that the John Roberts I think might be correct is living with his wife, Elizabeth, at Graigwen, he born around 1780 and she born around 1787, although Evan's address on the marriage certificate was given as Glyn Mawr. I can't find out anything about any siblings, other than possibly a Hugh Roberts, aged 25, living at Graigwen with the John Roberts I've mentioned.
Jane's address at marriage was given as Ty Isaf, Gwyddelwern living with her parents, Humphrey and Elizabeth Davies, both aged 65 (born in 1776), who had 3 other children at home, David, aged 35, Margaret (20) and Mary (17). The spread of ages may suggest that there were other Davies children elsewhere.
I'd be most grateful for any help or information to try and get further back. I've been searching for a couple years now, with help from Doreen and John Jones' valuable transcriptions.

Thank you for the information. The GFHS have an MI Bethesda C..M Blaenau Ffestiniog. Is it the same place? I checked that MI today and no mention of Blodwen Roberts and I have already checked the MI for the non denominational cemetery which I take is the very large cemetery as you enter and I couldn't find her there either. I will have to try some other method of gaining the information
Angharad
Hi Doreen & John,
Again, thank you both very much for your transcriptions -you and Gareth
Hicks for all your work in providing this for us all.
I was looking at in the 1851 census for Gwyddelwern/Llangar - Bodheulog &
Brosaethydd and wondering about my gg-grandfather's eldest brother Thomas
Francis b.Jan. 1796 in 'Blain-y-cwm', Llandrillo, whom you discovered
working as a servant for the DAVIES of 'Gaufron Fawr', Brosaethydd in 1841:
John Davies shown as age 60 and his sister Catherine as 65:- so John b.1777
-1781 and Catherine b.1772-1776.
I wondered if I could see them or some descendants in Gaufron Fawr in
1851, but I see it was the Hughes family working the 60 acre farm with his
son and one labourer. That's a big farm and Thomas Francis must have had
his work cut out in 1841!
He must have died around age 50 too, just like his Dad, Thomas Francis,
1769-1819?
Since these FRANCIS men never showed up in the burial registers, has
anybody got any idea what happened to their bodies?
Cheers, Tony in White Rock, BC

Dear list,
Since the great census transcriptions for Llanycil and Llangower have come
online at Genuki, I think I may have found my gt gt gt grandfather William
ROBERTS in Amnodd Wen, Llanycil, (aged 21 in 1851) who was at Cynythog Ganol
in 1871 (aged 39) and 1891 (aged 60). Does anyone know this family? Or
anything more about the families of Amnodd Wen? I am afraid I have rather
neglected this side of the family but might be able to progress with this
new information.
Could some kind soul also copy this posting to the Merioneth list please?
I would appreciated hearing from anyone with access to Llanycil MIs, and any
other information!
William, btw, married a Janet/Jonnet prior to 1871.
Thanks,
Ian

Thank you. Had a look and I am wondering whether it is the very large
cemetery before you enter Blaenau where my husband's grandparents are
buried. Perhaps someone can tell me. My problem is that I was told this
Blodwen Roberts is buried in Bethesda Manod [ in the 70's ] but that I have
failed so far to discover the memorial inscription in the GFHS
transcriptions - which also has transcribed a Bethesda CM chapel Blaenau
Ffestiniog. I am taking it for granted that Manod is in Ffestiniog not
Blaenau. The GFHS centre is open again this Saturday so will have another
search

Hi Gwen
Do you know when he died in 1841? The census in 1841 was taken at the beginning of June (much later than the other years). You may be looking for someone who isn't there.
Doreen
Angharad,
If you stick 270974,344536 as a co-ordinate into www.old-maps.co.uk you'fll
see the Chapel and it's cemetry. I.e. on the A470 out of Blaenau.
Don't remember if it's there though, it's been a while since I've been
there.
Paul.

Doreen,
The Robert Daniel I am looking for was buried at Llanfor church and the
tombstone inscription says he was 82 when he died in 1841. I have him and
his wife Mary having children in Llanfor from 1796 thru 1802. I need to
follow their children to see where they ended up and see if prhaps Robert
was with one of them in 1841 before he died.
Thanks for checking,
Gwen
Can someone tell me which of Ffestiniog's cemeteries is Bethesda, Manod - where exactly is it. I am looking for the grave of a Miss Blodwen Roberts [and her parents] who taught at Maenofferen I believe and lived in Cwmbowydd Rd. I have failed to find the grave in the GFHS memorial inscriptions. There is some family connection somehow and it's time I tried to discover exactly how we are connected.
Diolch
Angharad
Thanks - without research I will not be able to discover what the
connection - John Roberts was in Ffestiniog in 1841 and dead before 1851.
If only Robin would do a bit of research for himself!! I hope someone will
be able to enlighten me whether the place is beneath the lake or otherwise.

Can anyone give me information about Pandy'r Ddwyryd. I believe I am correct in that it was in Maentwrog parish - was it in Gellilydan? - and I have heard that it is today under Trawsfynydd lake. We have a dresser here - my husband's paternal line - that is known as "dresel Pandy'r Ddwyryd " but as yet I have much research to do to connect it with his gt grandfather, a John Roberts - who died prior to the 1851 census. I have an article about a Lowri William of Pandy'r Ddwyryd but I know of no connection with her
Thank you
