Hi Anna,
You say all your ancestors went to the colonies before 1720, I would be very
interested in the names of these ancestors if you did not mind, because I
amhaving trouble with one of mine in particular. He was Robert Wynne
1716-1761. I have wondered whether for some reason, he left Merionethshire for
America at some time, or perhaps his parents did, because I cannot find a baptism
for him. Plenty of evidence of his existance later, including his marriage,
and baptisms of his children. He also witnessed various marriages in the
family, and of course, I have his gravestone details.
Anyway, enough of that for now, just putting out feelers.
All the best,
Maureen Jenkins

Hello Laura,
How far back do the Pedigrees go? My ancestors all came to the colonies

Hello Laura,
Could not help but see your request to Alwyn about getting the Pedigrees
etc.,
I know they are out on microfilm, but I do have a hard copy that I bought
quite a few years ago when they did a reprint. Is there something specific I
can help with in the meantime?
Regards,

Printed copies of Griffith's very rarely appear in second hand bookshops, and when they do they are unbelievably expensive.
If you have a micro fiche reader, or if you have access to one through a local library etc, you can purchase a copy of the book on fiche for 11.75 GBP from Gwynedd Family History Society

Just wondering if you would know where I can get a copy of JE Griffiths 1914 Pedigrees of Anglsey and Caenarvon?

Laura,
I am working on the family of Owen Evans and his wife Jane Hughes who were married 25 April 1840. They lived at Ty'n y ddol in Festiniog. The marriage record lists the father of Owen Evans as also being named Owen Evans. Please contact me directly at gwenny(a)snet.net
I hope to hear from you,

Bob Williams <williams0694(a)sbcglobal.net> wrote: Because of the style of naming in Wales at the time, I have hit a brick wall. I am trying to find more about my ancestor who was known as William ap John and who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1683, on the Morning Star out of Mosen (now; Mostyn). The homeland of William ap John (born 1644) when he arrived in Pennsylvania, is given as County of Merioneth (or Merionethshire), Penllyn Hundred, Llanfawr Parish, Bettws Township in Wales and he is identified as a "yoeman." I understand this is a few miles northeast of Bala on or near the River Dee. He married Ann Reynald or Reynolds (b. 1648). Guess at wedding date is 1668 or 1669. They had four children (all born in Wales), John (b. 1670), Alice (b. 1672), Katherine (b. 1674), and Gwen (b. 1676). On arrival in Pennsylvania his name was recorded by English officials as William John and William Jones and it is recorded that "William Jones, or John, of Bettws, is the same person !
who
witnessed deeds, in Wales, of the John Thomas and Edward Jones Company" (A company of 17 Welsh Quaker families who were purchasers of land in Pennsylvania from William Penn). Both parents died on shipboard or shortly after arrival and the children took the surname "Williams."
Can anyone advise if it is possible to identify and trace parents and ancestors of William ap John and Ann Reynald? All assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Laura,
I believe we are working on the same Evans family who lived at Tynddol in
Festiniog. I just obtained a certified copy of the marriage record of Owen
Evans and Jane Hughes. They were married on 25 April 1840 in the Parish
church of LLanrwst. Owen was 30 and Jane 24. He resided at ty'n y ddol,
Festiniog and his father was Owen Evans also. Jane was residing at Bryn
gyfeilian township of Gwydir and her father was Hugh Hughes. Please email me
direct at:
gwenny(a)snet.net
Thanks, Gwen Cunningham

Hi, don't know if you are still looking for information on this subject. Was Margaret born in 1846 approx? If yes, she is the sister of my g,g,g grandfather. I have qiute a bit of information on the family, if you'd like to get in touch to confirm if this year of birth sounds right, i'd be happy to help.
Laura.
The Library in Dolgellau does not, as far as I know, have many old
newspapers. The best collection of old local newspapers in north Wales,
including many covering the Ffestiniog area, is in the University Library in
Bangor. They can be found in the stacks in the basement of the main Library.
The Library is open to people who are not "connected" to the collage.
