Hello Listers,
Would some kind Weslsh speaker please say a few words about the name
Maesyfallen. There is another farm of the same name near Llandeilo, and I
knew the son of the family, but he had lived all his adult life in the
Midlands and did not know the meaning, but was quite sure it was not a
corruption of "Maes Afallen", because no apple trees ever grew there.
"Fallen" is not in "Y Geiriadur Mawr". "Ffaling" is shown as an obsolete
word for a cloak.
Thank you,
Gordon

On our g grandfathers census records it states that his birthplace was MACHTRE Merionethshire, I cannot locate this on any resource. I note that there is a MOUGHTRE in MACHYLLNETH, Merionethshire. but find no entries for his birth in MOUGHTRE, . I am wondering if his birthplace would be listed as MACHYLLNETH I can find an entry for that.
John Williams,, Born abt 1851 Machtre Merionethshire.
Father Richard Williams.
I am hoping to get a birth certificate for John and then mothers name and maiden name, also if there are any other siblings from census'
Any help very much appreciated. I am quite new at genealogy, but love this site , wishing you all luck with your searches.
I am hoping for a some day access to the earlier BMD recorded only in
Parish Registers to be made more readily available. My ancestors all left
Wales long before the required civil registrations. Is there anyone
living close by who has time and ability to check some of those old
registers?
I am looking for parents of David JONES b 1709 in a farmhouse on

have been named John.

I would be grateful if someone who has access to the 1851 census for Llangower could confirm the birthplace entry for Jane Jones, widow, aged 69 of Cornele , Llangower (Uwchafon or Isafon).
Elfed Owen.
Hi Elfed
John found these for you
1851 Llangower (Isafon)
10
Cornele
Jane JONES, Head, Wid, 69, Farmer 60 acres, Llangower, Mer
John JONES, Son, U, 39, Farmer's Son, Llangower, Mer
Anne JONES, Daughter, U, 26, Farmer's Daughter, Llangower, Mer
Mary or Margaret JONES, Daughter, U, 23, Farmer's Daughter, Llangower, Mer
John JONES, Servant, U, 17, Servant of all work, Llangower, Mer
Elizabeth EVANS, Niece, -, 4,---, Llanfawr, Mer.
I don't know how much you can count on the birthplaces on census listings. We have found that quite often the birthplace was entered to be the same as the Census place when it really wasn't the case.
Doreen & John
Hamilton, Canada.
Hi Elfred,
This is really interesting.
Orginally I thought the info about Jane concerned the Jane Williams b.1835
dau of John Williams & Anne Griffiths.I now realise she was the wife of
Griffith b.1827-28 son of the above. What an interesting lady she would
have been.I believe she was Jane Roberts b.1846 Llangower dau of Robert
Roberts & Margaret.
Griffith & Jane had 3 children,John b.1880,Margaret b 1882 &Ann b.1887.
Would you know the birth year of the John Williams of Derwgoed married to
Ellen Evans.
My John Williams b.1838, the youngest son of John Williams & Anne Griffiths
married
Margaret Evans b.1854, Llanfor. She was a descendant of the Penbryn Fawr
Evans family.
I would love to find out the connection ( if any ) between John & Anne & the
earlier families
that you mention living at Derwgoed.
The letter I have that was written to my aunt was signed Dwysan, this is more
than likely
the Dwysan Rowlands you refer to.I will send this to you offlist if you
like.
I will study all this a bit more & keep in touch.
Many thanks
Fran.

I don't have much information about Derwgoed/Drewgoed except that Hugh
Hughes of Gelli Isa, Talybont near Bala, my great great grandfather's
brother, married Annie Williams of Derwgoed. She died soon afterwards in
1856. Anybody know any more?
Re Dwysan Rowlands (nee Lloyd) I knew her well. Marvellous woman. Her father
was Robert Lloyd known everywhere as Llwyd o'r Bryn. Her mother was Ann
known as Nans of Drewgoed. Dwysan's son, Eilir, lives at Hendre,
Cefnddwysarn near Bala. He might have more info. Hafina
Hello Fran,
I hope the following will be of interest to you -
1. In the Welsh book "Ardal y Sarnau" by Dwysan Rowlands - a photo
collection of the history of Sarnau, there is a photo of Jane Williams,
Derwgoed (1846 -1920) . There is also a poem written in her honour and a
brief obituary about her which states that she had memorised the whole
Bible, but even if it was an exaggeration it showed her determination and
her ability.
She treasured what she had memorised and made good use of it . She also hid
the phrases of the Bible in her heart.
The book was first published in 1994 by Carreg Gwalch
(www.carreg-gwalch.co.uk)
I believe that the author, Dwysan Rowlands was born in Derwgoed.
2. In the Welsh book " Achau rhai o deuluoedd hen Siroedd ,Caernarfon,
Meirionydd a Threfaldwyn" by T. Ceiri Griffiths, published by Y Lolfa
(www.ylolfa.com) there is a family tree of Ellen Evans (1877 -1938) wife
of John Williams of Derwgoed, Llandderfel.
3. My connections with Derwgoed -
(a) In 1807 William Morgan died at Derwgoed - he was living there with his
widowed daughter Catherine Roberts (Williams before she married).
Catherine's sister Magdallen was the first wife of my maternal gt-gt
grandfather, Evan Jones of Pantyronnen, Llangower.
(b) I also think that Robert Roberts (late husband of Catherine) was a
wedding witness for my paternal gt-gt grandfather.
(c) On 13 December 1821 Elizabeth d/o Robert Owen and Mary was born at
Derwgoed. Robert Owen may have been the brother of my gt grandfather - I
have yet to confirm this.
(d) In 1743 another Robert Owen lived at Drewgoed (I have been reliably
informed that this was the original name of Derwgoed) Llandderfel. I suspect
that he was my Gt-gt -gt grandfather but I have been unable to find more
evidence.
I would be grateful for any information or history which may throw some
light on the above .
Regards,
Elfed.

Hi Elfred,
I would be interested in any info for Jane. John b. 1838 is my direct line.
I'm afraid I can't help you re the period 1791 to 1821 at Derwgoed at
this stage.
I have a letter written to my aunt in 1985, with details of some of the

Derwgoed,Cefndowysarn 1842-1844.
I have had no success tracing John Williams[ b.1795] line. Was perhaps
Derwgoed the family home of
this John Williams.?
I have the 1851,61,71 census for this Derwgoed family ( courtesy of John &

A query re Gerunt, Beddgelert (b'place of Anne Griffiths ) on the
