Thanks to Alwyn's 1841 census transcription, I found a John Owens family in Llanddwywe uwch y Graig.
Is there anyone who has access to the 1851 census who could please look up this family?
1841 Census; Pen bryn y bont:
Owens, John, 35, weaver; Margaret, 35; Mary, 12; Owen, 10; Jane, 8; William, 6; Elizabeth, 3.
I believe this is their marriage:
John Owen, Bachelor, Bwlch yr Ysgol & Margaret Williams, Spinster, Blaen Cwmmynach, Llanelltyd by Banns 17 Feb 1826; Witnesses - Griffith Owen & Ann Barrow.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me please where I might find Gefnirucha, Dolgelley on a map?
I have looked on both the Multimap and O S sites without luck and I cannot
find it on my Os map No 124 either. I think it might have been a farm, since
it was given as the address of William Jones, a farmer in respect of registrar
entries in 1873 and 1876.
Many thanks,
Tricia Heseltine,

The Welsh radio programme "Pawb a'i Brofiad" broadcast yesterday on Radio
Cymru was on the subject of family history.
I took part in the broadcast, which included a "vendetta" between myself and
Dr Rhys Sudamore, a direct descendant of Owain Glyndwr - the murderer of my
ancestor Hywel Sele!
For those who missed the programme, but would like to listen to it, it can
be downloaded from "Radio ar alw" on:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/networks/cymru/aod.shtml?cymru/Pawb_ai_brofia
d
Otherwise the programme will be broadcast again on Sunday at 1.40pm

Hi Alwyn,
Many thanks for the directions, and it all makes perfect sense as the family
moved from Dolgellau in 1864 and were in Llangelynin by 1868. I am grateful
to you for your help.
Kind Regards
Tricia

There have been a number of messages around the lists to which I'm
subscribed reporting unauthorised withdrawal of funds from credit card and
bank accounts connected with the company Research-UK, now bought by Ancestor
Detectives.
I've been in contact with Sussex Police.
They will collate all reports on this.
Please contact their CRIB - Crime Recording Investigation Bureau on 0845
6070999.
They've now set up a reference number for the reports - quote 587 on 3
March.
They *can* be contacted by email on contact.centre(a)sussex.police.uk , but as
they have one person dealing with email, and 50 on the phones, they suggest
those in the UK use the phone!
This is not a company I am familiar with. I do not wish to make any
suggestions about them or their business methods or probity, simply to pass
on the reported existence of a problem.

Good Morning Listers,
I have recently had great help from Mr Dylan Jones the Superintendent
Registrar at Dolgellau, and listers on this list in finding a number of my JONES
family and would now like to be able to "pin down" where they actually were. I
have looked on the modern OS maps for a place called Cae'nycoed, Dolgelley
which is given as a place of birth of one of the children, but have been unable
to find it. Would anyone know where this might be please?
Many thanks,
Tricia Heseltine,

We have just added the following indexes to the North Wales BMD
website:
Civil Marriages - Bala Registration District
1839 - 1915
1,901 entries
Until 1898, the Registrar had to be present, by law, at all marriage
ceremonies that took place in Nonconformist chapels and Roman Catholic
churches - and also, of course, at those that took place in the
Register Office! He/she recorded all these marriages in the same
Register - hence they are all described as "civil" marriages.
The parishes in the Bala registration district are:
Llandderfel
Llanfor / Llanfawr
Llangower / Llangywer
Llanycil (including the town of Bala)
Llanuwchllyn
Many thanks to Mrs Marian Jones, the Superintendent Registrar at Bala, for
her enthusiastic assistance with the North Wales BMD project.

I don't know if people saw this on the Shropshire list, but
www.192.com is free just for this week.
I think the service has temporarily been opened up, as a means of
saying thank you before the service changes.
192.com offers:
- electoral roll search, i.e. find names and addresses of potential
living relatives;
- directory enquiries search, for the phone numbers;
- directors search, to find contacts of directors in the UK.
You can also get electoral roll searches displayed by household.
I'm currently copying / pasting lots of information onto a Word
document, and others might want to do the same .... for future
reference.
Alison
Hello Jeff.
Your reply to Jan re Llanycil PR's sparked an interest in Rowland Jones
Mason. wife Anne and daughter Mary whoes graves are situated near another
Rowland Jones Mason and his wife Catherine Jones nee Angel which are located
in St Cadfan's churchyard Tywyn.
I am trying to get a connection between these families and to this end
wonder if there were any witnesses noted in the marriage details of Rowland
Jones to Anne Richards of the 26th April 1834 in the Llanycil Parish
Registers'
You also mentioned that Rowland Jones appears as witness to 6 marriages in
1819-20 would it be possible to provide details.?
Regards.
Richard.
