I've tried but with little success. Have you any idea where Elizabeth was born in Wales?
The surname also appears to be problematic! I notice in the 1881 Canadian census they appear as KAGE:
1881 Canada Census
Yates Street Ward, Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia
James KAGE, Married, Male, Scottish, 49, Scotland, School Teacher, Presbyterian
Elizabeth KAGE, Married, Female, Welsh, 45, Wales, Presbyterian
James S. KAGE, Male, Scottish, 17, England, Medical Student, Presbyterian
Ernest E KAGE, Male, Scottish, 15, England, Presbyterian
Edith A. J. KAGE, Female, Scottish, 13, England, Presbyterian
The family appear to have been living in the East End of London in the late 1860s:
Ernest Edward KAYE, born 1865 Q4, Poplar
Edith Adelaide Isabella KAYE, born 1868 Q2, Poplar
but I can't find any of them on the 1861 or 1871 census for England or Wales. Could they have gone back to Scotland or emigrated before 1871? You may need to look at the Scottish census site at:

Dr. Tomos Jones of Trawsgoed)
I have this info from Hafina Coppack who found it in the Bala newspaper Y
Cyfnod in an article by W.J. Edwards on 12/3/1982.
My grandson is a direct descendant of these people.
I would be very grateful for any info you have about them! Thanks for the
info that the two names are farm names, John

Hi Gwen
Trawsgoed is a farm in Llanuwchllyn, also Cwm Tylo. Both have a connection with my family. In fact, I spoke with my cousin's widow in Wales yesterday and she is descended from Cwm Tylo. One of her aunts was Nansi Richards the famous Welsh Harpist.
One of my nephews in Wales is living with a woman who is descended from the Trawsgoed family. My nephew and his partner have two sons Meirion and Huw.

Dear Listers,
I have a few questions that I hope you can answer.
1. Does anyone know where I can get the information contained in the above
mentioned documents? They have information about Tomos JONES, a Doctor who
died 11 April 1820 aged 81.
2.Can anyone tell me where Trawsgoed is? The info I have says that the Dr
was of the notable Trawsgoed family and their descendants are in Penllyn to
this day. Is Trawsgoed a house/farm name or the name of a hamlet/village?
3. Can anyone tell me where Cwm Tylo is?
I have just ordered a couple of maps from ordnance survey so hopefully I'll
be better equipped soon.
Thanks,
Gwen Cunningham

Hello,
I am new to list and would appreciate some guidance as to where I can find
records of folk who lived in Talyllyn prior to 1800, and what local churchyards
have old gravestones in which are readable.
Any clues gratefully received.

Yours in hope,

Hello, I am trying to locate my Welsh cousins. My David Jones was born around 1709 in the subject line. His father was a Clergyman of the Estabilished Church in the parish. He ran away at age twelve to US and thrived. I would like to find his father's grave and any info available. He had a stepmother(whom he did not care for) and I would like to find out his mother's name. Surely I have some Jones cousins in Wales.
Thank you Dianne Jones

Hi there,
I don,t really know how i got to this site, but was trying to trace my father and came across your mssg which seemed a bit of a coincidence but possibly a dead end!?
My name was Bronwen Foster Edwards my father was Lewis Foster Edwards (born 24/08/1924), i have a brother Robert Foster Edwards and apparently step-sisters called Marion and Janet and a step brother called Idris( from my father 1st marriage to Vera).
Lewis' s father was called Robert Foster Edwards and was in the navy, married to Anne and they lived in Berkenhead.
I have very little information on him except that both parents Anne and Robert died while Lewis was a child so he was brought up by the house keeper and her two daughters Min and Dill.
Its probably a long shot but after reading your message i just wondered if you could help me in any way or had any information.
Thanks for your time
Bronwen,
Hi Ian
John found two for you. Looks like the second one is a good match
since he named a son William. Both entries have a mother Jane so for
sure his mother was a Jane.
Cynwyd came under Gwyddelwern also Llangar at times.
Llangar Baptisms
1809 Nov 5 Humphrey DAVIES son of David & Jane, Ty'n Y Gottel
1811 Apr 7 Humphrey DAVIES son of William & Jane, Ty'n Y Graig
In 1841 he was working as an Agricultural Labourer in Llandrillo -
Tyfos Ucha - working for Cadwaladr Roberts (who is on John's tree)

Is the census for all of Wales available on ancestry? If not, what parts of
Wales? And is the census every-name indexed?
Thanks.

Hi,
To clarify... Those fellows I listed came from information I transcribed from Naturalization papers filed in the County Court of Rutland Vermont. They are posted for the benefit of anyone who may desire that information. If someone needs further information on any of the fellows I posted, they need to do so quickly before I no longer have access to those records.

Thank you Alwyn for seeing my messages and helping me. All I know about Frongoch is from 3 wills, all saying parish of Llanymawddwy. I did find it on a map and it is NW of Bala on Road A4212. I have been unable to find Mary on the 1851 or 1861 census but found a Mary Miles on the 1871 which could be the right one. She was born about 1785 at Llanymawddwy, widow living at Cwmcewydd. Her 2 sisters are living with her, an Elizabeth Evans, 80, widow and a Jane Jones, 91. Mary is a former wool weaver and it looks as tho they were living at Dinas Mawddwy. There was an Edward Miles of Werngae in 1824, son of Thomas Miles of Frongoch which leads me to wonder if Edward wasn't her husband rather than Evan. On a death cert. for a Mary Miles in 1880 at Groeslwyd, p of Llanymawddwy, she was the widow of Edward. I hope that makes it clearer and thanks again for your help. Catherine

As the 1851 census is now available on Ancestry, I am trawling the old messages to see if there are any previous requests that I was unable to answer earlier that I can answer now.
I am confused however, by your messages! I had thought that you were looking for details from Frongoch near Bala. I have searched through Bala records for you! But without results I didn't reply.
It appears however that you'r "Frongoch" is in the Dinas Mawddwy area, but I can't find it!
Do you have any latter census entries for Frongoch, Mawddwy, that might help put the holding in a social setting?

My step father was John Price Jones born 16 June 1900 at Coed y Fron
Maentwrog. His parents were Ellis Jones born 4 May 1850 at Frondinion,
Maentwrog . He died in 1924 at Coed y Fron & Ann Thomas born 23
February 1868 at Gwyndy, Trawsfynydd. She died 5 May 1929 at Llwyn
Gellyldan, Maentwrog
Ellis Jones parents were Ellis Jones born at Gellilydan, Maentwrog April
1815 & died at Coed y Fron 25 February 1889 & Ellen Jones born 1819
in Maentwrog who gives her fathers name a John Humphrey.
They were married 22 June 1842. The marriage certificate list him as a
Blacksmith living at Gallylean & gives his fathers name as Morris Jones
a labourer. Ellen Jones is living at Nanty march & her father John
Humphrey as a farmer.
This is where I am stuck. I find a Morris Jones married to a Catherine
Ellis & another Morris Jones married to a Catherine about 1810-11. There
are children that I believe are siblings of Ellis Jones born 1815 but
have no proof. They are Hugh Humphrey born 1811, Ann born 1816, Morris
1818 at Gellilydan, Elizabeth born 10 January 1822 Gellyldan, and maybe
a William born in 1825. I also have a Morris Jones who may be the
father died 15 Aug 1826 at Hafod Offeriaid.
Does this sound familiar to any one or can some one know where I can
look to find the correct Morris & Catherine
Thanks
